JOB DESCRIPTION:

The New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at the ASU West Valley campus is seeking a Student Success/Retention Coordinator to be a part of our undergraduate services team. This position counsels and confers with both current and incoming undergraduate students within various programs of study; and provides guidance, support and understanding such as enrollment, finances, housing, academic skill building and barriers to retaining and persisting throughout their undergraduate career. Executes all aspects of new student orientation and onboarding events and initiatives as directed. T
This position is located at ASU’s West Valley campus in Glendale, AZ with a Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm schedule including some nights and weekends as needed for special events.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, communication, counseling, educational leadership, or a related field.
  • Masters degree strongly preferred. Knowledge of persistence and retention principles in a higher education setting.
  • Evidence of exceptional work ethic and professionalism; with a strong affinity to the university charter.
  • Experience in higher education environments and organizational structures.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining rapport and/or effective working relationships
  • Experience in adapting and shifting priorities, quickly and effectively as required.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and take initiative to execute as appropriate and independently.
  • Ability to demonstrate professional maturity, discretion, and sound judgment in all aspects of the position, at all times.

  • Experience developing targeted interventions for at-risk student populations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to deliver dynamic and engaging presentations to students, faculty, and leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects, and allocate resources effectively.
  • Familiarity with student information systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Workday and Salesforce) and data analysis tools (e.g., Tableau, Excel, etc.) is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, MS Office 365, Slack, Zoom, Salesforce MarketingCloud and scheduling software systems strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive guidance and support to undergraduate students in areas such as enrollment, financial aid, housing, academic skill-building, and overcoming retention barriers throughout their academic journey.
  • Executes all aspects of new student orientation and onboarding events and initiatives (move-in, NSO, NEW 101, Enrollment Days, retention programming, etc.).
  • Participates in any events and strategy for enrollment, retention and persistence for undergraduate populations.
  • Advise students on university policies, procedures, and academic expectations, offering strategic problem-solving support for academic and personal challenges.
  • Maintain accurate student records, generate reports, and provide data-driven insights to support student engagement and retention efforts.
  • Direct students to appropriate university resources when specialized support is needed.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with students, offering holistic support as they transition to and navigate university life.
  • Conduct targeted outreach through call and email campaigns, while managing appointments with incoming and current students using an online scheduling system.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, financial aid, and campus support services to help resolve issues and eliminate barriers to student success as directed.
  • Demonstrate appropriate emotional intelligence, critical thinking, discretion, and sound judgment in all student interactions and program initiatives.
  • Review, respond and resolve all student of concern (SOC) requests for undergraduate cohorts as assigned. Identify key student populations for targeted outreach and specialized support initiatives.
  • Collaborate with academic units, colleges, and university offices to ensure a coordinated approach to student success and retention efforts as directed.
  • Organize and facilitate group workshops, and student support programming to prepare students for academic and career opportunities post-graduation as directed.
  • Guide students in selecting academic and extracurricular options that align with their goals, interests, and skills while ensuring they are aware of available support services.
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing student retention, engagement, and overall success as directed.
  • Address and resolve student concerns, ensuring they have access to the tools, resources, and guidance needed for success.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development workshops, and university-wide student support initiatives as directed.
  • Assist in implementing, evaluating, and refining student retention programs to improve effectiveness as directed.
  • Provide training and mentorship as directed to program staff and peer mentors, collaborating on interventions for at-risk students.
  • Establish a visible and consistent presence on campus, attending campus and college events including nights and weekends as assigned.
  • Support and facilitate NEW 101 course sections as directed.
  • Deliver engaging presentations to incoming and current students, utilizing multiple platforms for effective communication in both in-person and virtual settings.
  • Contribute to the development, execution, and continuous improvement of new student onboarding programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support student success and university initiatives.
