UPMC Jameson’s School of Nursing is hiring a Student Support & Retention Nurse Specialist! This full-time role will work Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the UPMC Jameson School of Nursing. Candidates with their MSN, teaching, and academic counseling experiences in a post-secondary nursing program are encouraged to apply! The Student Support & Retention Nurse Specialist leads and promotes a positive and successful learning experience for students with high-level support responsibilities across all UPMC Schools of Nursing campuses. The Student Support & Retention Nurse Specialist serves as a role model for faculty and students and partners with executive leadership in the achievement of a culture of excellence within the pre-licensure, hospital based educational environment. The Student Support & Retention Nurse Specialist develops recommendations for improvements on the process, and identifies opportunities to enhance student retention, inclusion, student retention initiatives and develops action plans to address. The Student Support & Retention Nurse Specialist will coordinate a holistic student support program encompassing student experience from pre-enrollment through graduation. Responsibilities: Student Success & Retention: Design and implement evidence-based academic support programs to improve student retention and success, including strategies for study skills, test-taking, critical thinking, and time management. Consulting & Leadership Collaboration: Serve as a primary consultant for student engagement and cultural improvements; partner with executive leadership to develop innovative support models. Faculty Development: Enhance faculty capabilities through training and workshops to ensure consistent academic support for students. Student Support Services: Provide individualized academic coaching for at-risk students, coordinate tutoring and skill labs, and connect students with faculty and resources for concept mastery. Program Evaluation & Continuous Improvement: Analyze student outcomes, satisfaction data, and retention trends to drive strategic improvements; develop onboarding and orientation programs for new and returning students. Policy & Compliance: Maintain regulatory compliance for admissions, review and update student policies, and oversee annual publication of the Student Handbook. Committee & Advisory Roles: Actively participate in faculty senate, student support committees, and SNAP chapters; provide monthly updates to leadership and facilitate multi-campus initiatives. Innovation & Best Practices: Research and implement new strategies for student success; share best practices through presentations, scholarly projects, and organizational publications. Community & Culture Building: Foster an inclusive, respectful learning environment; plan student engagement activities and promote cultural diversity and civility. Masters degree or doctorate in Nursing or a related field required. If Masters in a related field, BSN is required. 4 years of nursing experience required. 2 years of teaching or closely related experience required. Prior experience advising nursing students, and student services preferred. Experience in academic support or academic counseling preferred. Must possess outstanding communication skills. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products required. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the state where the facility is located is preferred. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
