Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) is looking for a creative, deadline-oriented student worker to help bring our story to life through multimedia content. In this role, you’ll create and edit photos and videos for use across UNR Med’s social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, and YouTube, as well as in other digital communications.
As part of the Marketing and Communications (MarCom) team, you will capture campus events and student life, support campaigns with creative visuals, and help ensure our digital presence is dynamic and engaging. The ideal candidate is a self-starter and strong storyteller with solid skills in photography, videography, and social media. Responsibilities

  • Capture, edit, and produce photos and videos to create engaging, brand-aligned content for UNR Med’s social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, YouTube)
  • Write compelling captions tailored to each platform’s audience and format
  • Learn and use Sprout Social to coordinate and schedule posts, stories, and reels for campaigns, daily storytelling, and special projects
  • Research trends and propose creative strategies to increase engagement and reach
  • Ensure all visuals and messaging align with UNR Med’s brand guidelines and tone
  • Photograph and film milestone events, lectures, and campus activities (may include occasional evenings and weekends)
  • Organize, edit, and maintain an archive of multimedia assets for future use
  • Support larger photo and video shoots by setting up equipment, capturing behind-the-scenes content, or shooting additional footage
  • Track and report on social media analytics to evaluate content performance
  • Attend weekly Marketing and Communications team meetings and brainstorming sessions
  • Collaborate with the content writer and broader team to support campaigns, special projects, and event promotion
  • Stay up to date on best practices in photography, videography, and social media trends
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Candidate must be a student of the University of Nevada, Reno
  • Candidate must have strong writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail
  • Candidate must have the ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Candidate must have excellent communication skills and a proactive attitude
  • Candidate must be flexible and able to adapt to last-minute requests or changes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidate has knowledge of/interest in the School of Medicine, research, and related health care fields
  • Candidate is majoring in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or related fields

Knowledge of:

  • Photography and videography for social media and digital content
  • Social media platforms and best practices (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube)
  • Social media management tools (e.g., Sprout Social)
  • Journalistic writing, including AP style, and marketing-focused storytelling techniques
  • Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Higher education audiences and topics
  • Standard English/grammar usage

Skills:

  • Strong photography and video editing skills
  • Desktop publishing and content creation using tools like Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office
  • Effective use of social media to engage diverse audiences
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Ability to:

  • Write purposefully and persuasively for a variety of digital platforms
  • Maintain professional business and work ethics and standards
  • Work with, engage, and provide accurate and appropriate representations of a diverse population
  • Manage, prioritize, and complete multiple projects/tasks in an efficient and timely manner while maintaining focus on organizational goals

Schedule
Part-time, up to 20 hours per week during regular business hours (9 a.m.–5 p.m.). Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to support milestone events and special projects.
