POSITION SUMMARY Student Worker – Federal Student Worker Student Success is an on-ground-only position reporting to the Coordinator of Student Support Services. This is a support position providing administrative assistance to the SSC and serving the student population via coaching and tutoring. This role helps empower students to integrate effective learning and study strategies efficiently, assists with writing and grammar, and helps clarify and/or reinforce course content, assignments, and material. Hired students must be eligible for the Student Worker Program. RESPONSIBILITIES The essential functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the characteristic duties and responsibilities noted herein; however, this list represents examples only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions found in this job description. • Meet with students to clarify and review concepts taught in class, explain processes, and help students solve specific problems through active listening and problem-solving. • Research, develop, and implement learning and study strategies for coaching and tutoring. • Attend trainings on advising, coaching and SDS services as assigned to enhance the student experience and maintain compliance in tutoring, advising, and coaching practices. • Participate in all Student Success Center training sessions and staff meetings. • Provide services to students with accommodations when a scribe or other necessary assistance is deemed appropriate by the Coordinator of Student Disability Services or Director of Student Success. • Develop a proficient understanding of college services, supports, and resources to ensure excellence in serving students. • Greet all SSC visitors and check email, voicemail, and text messages daily for requests for assistance. • Assist the SSC Team with other projects as needed. • Facilitate problem-solving with a curious mind and critical thinking skills. University-Wide Responsibilities • Model core organizational beliefs and values; communicate openly and effectively within and across departments. • Establish and maintain professional communication and ensure that all interactions are supportive, courteous, and respectful (TKU Social Covenant). • Utilize effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly both internally and publicly. • Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives. • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by governing entities (DOE, TRACS, ABHE, etc.); file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents. QUALIFICATIONS • Enrolled in at least 6 hours of undergraduate or 3 hours of graduate courses at The King’s University • 3.0 or better cumulative GPA and unofficial transcript • Two Faculty recommendations required • Demonstrate academic competence by submitting a recently graded writing sample • Valid Driver's License • Criminal Background check Competencies • Patient, flexible, positive, consistent, dependable, and cooperative • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills • Ability to problem-solve • Critical thinking skills • Working knowledge of FERPA regulations and requirements (confidently) MENTAL/PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS · Maintain emotional control under stress · Lift up to 15 lbs.
