CHAMINADE UNIVERSITY OF HONOLULU I. Position Information Title: Undergraduate Research Assistant Division: School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Non-Exempt Part time II. Position Summary The responsibilities of this position comprise assisting the Principal Investigator (PI) with their research project. III. Learning Outcomes * Understand the research process (e.g., evaluate scientific literature, collect and interpret data, develop and design experiments, etc.) * Communicate scientifically (e.g., present oral reports to the research team, prepare and present written reports, prepare and present PowerPoint presentations, prepare and present a scientific poster, etc.) * Acquire research skills (e.g., execute required techniques, discuss various experimental approaches, solve problems that may occur in the research environment, research chore assignments, etc.) IV. Reports to: Direct Report to: Chrystie Naeole and School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Principal Investigator V. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Students are expected to assist the PI by: * Performing research on projects aligned with the PIs research interests * Performing all the necessary procedures, tests and analyses for research projects * Performing other related duties * as assigned VI. VII. Education and Experience Minimum * Current major in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Data Science, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Studies and Forensic Science Preferred * Student should maintain a current GPA of at least 2.8 Required Student must be in receipt of agreement to be funded by a School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics or affiliated PI under the auspice of a federal, foundation or institution research. This position is grant funded and dependent on continued receipt of extramural funding by the PI. VIII. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * Strong communication and interpersonal skills. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software. * Organized with meticulous attention to detail. * Ability to prioritize work and resources. * Ability to meet deadlines. * Attention to detail with a focus on thoroughness and quality. * High integrity and ethical standards. * Work with hazardous materials may be involved so awareness of safety concern is compulsory IX. Physical Requirements Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand. X. Other Requirements: * This is a Part-time Non-Exempt Student Worker position. Depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule. * Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner. Follow all health and safety regulations and university procedures.
