About the role
Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a fantastic opportunity for a Sub Agent to join our team on the Highways A57 Link Road scheme, this role will be based at Ashton-under-Lyne, Manchester
Balfour Beatty Highways maintain, manage, and operate major highway networks across the UK and support local authorities creating communities where people want to live work and play.
We provide high quality asset strategy, management, and planning consultancy services to a wide range of public and private sector customers. We provide specialist, reliable, sustainable, and creative advice for asset management planning and implementation in the UK. We put our customers first and prioritise completing schemes safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
As a Sub Agent, you will Lead and control a section of works, according to a specific discipline, managing a team of Section Engineers and Site Engineers.
What you’ll be doing

Some other key responsibilities will be:

  • Reviews Method Statements and Risk Assessments, making improvements as appropriate.
  • Lead on Accident / Incident Investigation (HFACS and ‘Four Page Report’)
  • Guides & mentor subordinates in technical requirements and techniques of setting out, as well as resolution of construction issues.
  • Implements systems and processes to support construction of the works in accordance with the specification (eg Materials Approval, NCR, Handover Documentation).
  • Conduct Inspections and site audits to ensure works and documentation compliance.
  • Establish and monitor production, translated to graphical form from the Programme to aid understanding of status and identification of requirements for intervention.
  • Produce a budget from the resourced programme and monitor / review weekly costs.
  • Produce and implement Permits to Work, specifically Confined Space Permits and Hot Works Permits
  • Understand cost and value.
  • Draft correspondence to sub-contractors, suppliers and Client and understand NEC form of contract.

Who we’re looking for

You will have the following:

  • Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work.
  • Holds a current driving license and CSCS Card.
  • SSSTS or SMSTS qualified
  • Understands the principles of Accident / Incident Investigation, with a good working knowledge of the process.
  • A full understanding of technical requirements and techniques of setting out and coaching of team members.
  • Strong knowledge and management of construction process in one or more of the following areas: Earthworks/Drainage, Pavement, Comms, Structures, Roadworks
  • Have a good working knowledge of current H&S Legislation
  • Have a full understanding of technical requirements and techniques of setting out and coaching of team members
  • Possess good working knowledge of Contracts such as the NEC
  • Be an excellent team player, able to work competently and independently without continuous supervision
  • Possess strong communication skills with good interpersonal and influencing skills
