Objectives of the Role
The Subject Matter Expert (SME) plays a critical role in developing engaging, relevant, and high-quality online learning experiences. Working in close collaboration with Learning Experience Designers, Developers, and partner/client stakeholders, the SME provides expert content aligned with course learning outcomes and objectives.
This role operates within a dynamic, fast-paced, and project-driven environment, requiring strong communication, collaboration, and flexibility to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Cybersecurity & Data Risk Management for Public Entities

This course is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to assess and mitigate cyber and data storage risks within public entities. It explores IT infrastructure and governance, identification of risks in critical systems, and auditing processes for system access, operations, backup, and incident recovery. Participants will also examine strategies for aligning IT with organisational objectives while addressing emerging threats and regulatory requirements. The following modules will be covered:

  • Understanding the entity’s use of information technology (IT)
  • Identifying IT applications and systems that are subject to risks
  • Auditing processes for managing system access, change, and operations in public entities
  • Auditing risk minimisation, backup, and incident recovery processes for public entities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Planning: Participate in workshops to map course architecture, assessment strategy, and the structure of individual learning activities.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with clients, partners, and industry stakeholders to align course content with practical and academic insights.
  • Learning Design Support: Collaborate with Learning Designers to co-develop authentic learning activities, performance tasks, and identify opportunities for formative or automated feedback.
  • Content Development: Write and structure course content based on a pre-approved course map, ensuring academic accuracy and appropriate referencing.
  • Assessment Design: Create assessment tasks and rubrics in collaboration with Learning Designers and client/partner academic leads, including development of supporting materials such as case studies or data sets.
  • Media Planning: Support the creation of bespoke multimedia content by drafting interview scripts, prompts, or outlines as needed.
  • Resource Coordination: Liaise with university librarians to source and clear course materials; coordinate with graphic designers to develop course imagery.
  • Content Sourcing: Identify and integrate contemporary, relevant learning resources to enhance course content.
  • Quality Assurance: Review all course components from a subject matter perspective to ensure academic quality and relevance.
  • Feedback Implementation: Incorporate feedback from clients and partners throughout the development process to ensure content meets project expectations.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong specialist knowledge and expertise in cyber security and data storage risk mitigation and control, with a focus on auditing or compliance for public entities
  • Post-graduate level qualifications in the related area
  • Current or recent previous (in the past 3 years) senior leadership and/or highly successful broad consulting experience and/or widely recognised though leadership in the industry sector, either in cyber security and data storage risk mitigation and control (with a focus on auditing or compliance for public entities) OR in public sector entity auditing and compliance (with a focus on data and digital security)
  • High-profile professional regard, recognition and exposure in cyber security, data and digital security
  • Proven experience and capacity to present clearly and effectively on the topic to an online audience
  • Ability to respond knowledgeably and constructively to on-topic questions from a professional but non-digital-specialist audience
  • Strong interest in online learning pedagogy and digital education innovation.
  • Self-motivated and able to manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Open to feedback and responsive to input from diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Solutions-oriented mindset with a collaborative approach to problem solving.

Additional Information

  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) roles with Curio Faculty are fully remote and offered on a contract basis.
  • Contractors based in Australia are required to hold a valid Australian Business Number (ABN) or Australian Company Number (ACN).
  • A current Working with Children Check may be required, depending on the client or partner’s requirements.
