Position Overview: The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Concordia University, St. Paul, invites applications for a part-time faculty appointment to assist with curriculum development and, as needed, instruction for the following in-person undergraduate courses:   CSS 320 – Computer Architecture and Operating Systems (3 credits) CSS 425 – Software Engineering (3 credits)   The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty and program leadership to design curricula that align with departmental learning outcomes and current industry standards. Teaching assignments are offered in a face-to-face instructional format.   Course Description: CSS 320 – Computer Architecture and Operating Systems This course provides an introduction to the functional components of computer systems, including hardware implementation, system management at multiple levels, and the interaction of components that influence system performance. Emphasis is placed on the practical implications of these concepts for software development and programming practice.   CSS 425 – Software Engineering This course introduces fundamental concepts and tools in software engineering. Topics include software life-cycle models, phases of software development, design patterns, software architecture, and Agile methodologies. Students gain experience with modern software engineering tools such as integrated development environments, version control systems, and project management software. A strong foundation in object-oriented programming is expected.   Pre-Written Course: No Modality: In-person, on-site # of Credits: 3 credits each course Total Compensation: $5250    $1500 to create course materials and $3,750 to teach the course, in-person, for 16 weeks, per course   Class Dates/Times:  CSS 320 – Computer Architecture and Operating Systems- Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 AM to 10:50 AM, Sept 8 - Dec 22, 2026 CSS 425 – Software Engineering- Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 AM to 10:50 AM, Jan 12 - May 4, 2027   Program/College: Computer Science; College of Business, Science, and Technology Course Development Responsibilities: * Develop course syllabi, learning outcomes, instructional materials (including in-class activities), and assessments consistent with departmental and institutional standards. * Align course content with current trends in computer science and professional best practices. Course Instruction Responsibilities: * Facilitate quality student learning through teaching assigned courses, incorporating active learning techniques. * Increase student course engagement by engaging students through course activities and ongoing availability to provide student support. * Provide substantive and timely feedback on course assessments, following academic unit and university guidelines, within the Learning Management System, typically within five business days of the assessments’ due dates. * Respond to student inquiries typically within 24 hours during business days unless otherwise specified at the college level (48 hours on weekends, with closer monitoring if assignments are due during the weekend or on Monday). * Work collaboratively in a supportive academic environment, partnering with academic advising, career development, and the academic team to ensure each student has the resources they need to succeed. * Perform other job-related duties as assigned. * Follow the university and academic unit’s policies and procedures. Required Qualifications: * Master’s degree (required) or doctorate (preferred) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a closely related discipline. * Demonstrated knowledge of computer architecture, operating systems, and software engineering principles. Proficient in Java for the Software Engineering Course. * Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. * Commitment to student success and inclusive teaching practices. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in curriculum design or college-level instruction. * Familiarity with Agile development practices, design patterns, and industry-standard development tools (e.g., Git, Jira, Eclipse, or equivalent).
