About the role
Are you looking to be part of a team that builds and maintains the backbone of the UK’s power infrastructure? Balfour Beatty’s Power T&D team is currently looking for a Substation Wireman to support various projects across Scotland.

Key Responsibilities

  • The installation of HV plant and apparatus at all voltage levels from 33Kv to 400Kv,Including busbars and connectors, switchgear, transformers ground earthing, hottinning, mechanical bending/forming, erection of aluminium and steel structures as well as the installation of cables.
  • Gland and terminating multicore and power cables to meet client standards.
  • Understand and be conversant in red and green drawings and apply modifications as required. Install labels and interlocks including electrical interlocks. Wire control panels.
  • Resolve problems on site in conjunction with the site supervisor/managers ensuring all site procedures are being followed.
  • Maintain strict adherence to safety and relevant industry standards

What you’ll be doing

  • To liaise with the Project Management Team on progress of the job to guaranteeactivities are coordinated effectively across the project.
  • Work with the relevant supporting functions to ensure equipment and materialsare delivered to site in a timely manner
  • Ensure that accidents and near-miss incidents are promptly reported givingaccurate details established at the time of the incident, assist in investigationswhen required
  • To ensure that documenting of data and reporting requirements are satisfiedwithin the time frames required by all team members
  • Work closely with the commissioning team and engineering department forsuccessful interfacing

Who we’re looking for

  • The following qualities/experience are Essential:
  • SJIB Qualified 1.1 Competent in the installation of HV Substation apparatus.
  • Competent in site installation procedures
  • CPCS training or similar
  • Ability to work at Heights
  • Able to pro-actively develop and maintain a strong safety culture.
  • Able to identify competencies and skills required to undertake tasks and ensurethat personnel are trained and competent to carry this out
  • Good communication skills to effectively brief team and engage with widerfunctions at a range of levels of seniority.
  • Hold Current UK Driving Licence
  • The following qualities/experience are desirable:
  • SSE/SPEN/NG authorisations as required
  • 1.2 MEWP licence and/or Telehandler/ROTO preferred
