Description About Francis Parker School: Francis Parker School (Parker) is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California, with 1,330 students in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12. Job Description: The primary role of the Substitute School Nurse is to utilize nursing skills and professional judgment to ensure that all students receive appropriate health care services when the regular school nurse(s) are unavailable. As a Substitute, the nurse will fulfill the daily duties of an on-site nurse. Essential Duties/Responsibilities: The Substitute School Nurse shall: Provide acute, chronic, episodic, and emergency health care Facilitate healthy development and positive student responses to interventions Provide quality health care and intervene with actual and potential student health problems Use clinical judgment in providing case management services Daily, the Substitute School Nurse may: Assess and evaluate the health and developmental status of students Communicate with students, families, and health care providers Interpret assessments and medical information to school staff working with students Provide case management services for students Administer and monitor medications Promote a healthy school environment for the emotional and physical safety of students and staff Provide direct services to students through screening programs such as vision and hearing assessments, as mandated by the state Provide direct services to students for the care of illnesses and injuries Notify families of communicable disease outbreaks, monitor outbreaks, and communicate with appropriate health departments as necessary Maintain appropriate student records and document all student visits In addition to the duties listed above, Francis Parker School expects the following of each employee: adheres to Francis Parker School’s policies and procedures; works safely; performs duties as workload necessitates; maintains a positive and respectful attitude; communicates regularly with supervisor about department issues; demonstrates efficient time management and prioritizes workload; demonstrates regular and consistent attendance and punctuality; meets department productivity standards; participates in Parker events as needed or required; and completes other duties as assigned. Requirements Qualifications: California Registered Nurse Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Nursing Knowledge of many areas of health Knowledge of school laws and policies Ability to work independently Ability to work as a team member Ability to communicate well with others Ability to assess situations and act quickly Good working knowledge of computer operating systems and the ability to learn new systems and software Possess a Healthcare Provider BLS CPR certificate Prefer a qualified American Red Cross CPR instructor Knowledge of state health regulations Ability to multitask Salary and Benefits: This position pays $400 for a full day and $200 for a half day.
