Job Overview In the absence of the classroom teacher, the Teacher Substitute will provide instruction, encourages student progress and manages the learning environment. Follow the lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher to provide an effective and appropriate educational program for assigned students. Assignments can be either on a day-to-day basis or long term. Substitute teaching in a long-term position may be required to prepare lesson plans and do other related work as required. Position Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities Follow the lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher to provide an effective and appropriate educational program for assigned students Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school policy Continue as much as possible the routines and procedures for the school and classroom to which assigned Establish and maintain a sanitary, safe, orderly, attractive and positive learning environment for learning Report to office upon arrival at school; request clarification of school rules and procedures Grade papers and homework, complete accurate records and other required data and submit reports in a timely manner Maintain strict student and parent confidentiality Provide feedback to teacher; Include comments on the behavior of students, lessons completed and any possible changes in lesson plans Uphold all district policies, rules and procedures to which regular teachers are subject Determine if his/her services will be required for the next school day Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above essential duties satisfactorily. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress. Additional Information Work is performed generally in a classroom environment and other locations within and outside the school building such as cafeteria, playground, library, etc. The position requires standing, walking, sitting and lift/carrying work related items weighing under 25 pounds such as papers, books and instructional supplies. Substitutes are instructed to request assistance when lifting/carrying heavy items and when climbing is necessary to prepare displays, bulletin boards, etc. Work requires sufficient mobility to move about the classroom and inside and outside the school building. Work environment may be noisy. Work may involve exposure to student body fluids and disease conditions. Work may require exposure to student maladaptive behavior. Work involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment and performing job duties.
Responsibilities
The Substitute Teacher provides instruction and manages the learning environment in the absence of the regular teacher by following provided lesson plans to ensure an effective educational program for assigned students.
