SUD Behavioral Health Technician Reports To: Program Manager FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Work Location: Onsite, Minneapolis Hours: 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday Pay Range: $22.00 - $25.50 per hour JOB SUMMARY: The Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Behavioral Health Technician provides direct support to clients and staff, assisting with administrative, clinical, and recovery-related functions to ensure a safe, supportive, and effective treatment environment. This role models pro-social, recovery-oriented behaviors and helps clients access resources for successful transition from treatment into the community. PRIMARY JOB DUTIES: Client Interaction & Recovery Support Greet and welcome clients, manage the milieu, and ensure client safety. Provide peer recovery support, including education, advocacy, mentoring, and self-disclosure of personal recovery experiences. Accompany clients to appointments and support participation in recovery and community programs. Assist clients with accessing resources for housing, employment, education, and other advocacy services. Document client progress, service engagement, and outcomes accurately and timely. Maintain effective communication with counselors and staff regarding client needs and progress. Administrative & Operational Support Create, maintain, and update client charts, upload documents, and notify staff as appropriate. Verify insurance and fulfill medical record requests. Schedule and maintain multiple calendars and appointments in Procentive. Perform office duties including opening and closing procedures, maintaining cleanliness, and assisting with program logistics. Compliance & Policy Adherence Adhere to 245G requirements, HIPAA regulations, and PBH policies. Ensure all client documentation is completed on time and accurately. Attend all mandatory staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions. Community Engagement Maintain relationships with community resources, including food shelves, recovery community organizations (RCOs), and non-profits. Assist clients in creating financial plans for housing and communicate with housing management as needed. General Expectations Demonstrate and model pro-social, recovery-oriented behaviors at all times. Maintain supervision logs and fulfill other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills. Ability to maintain composure, professionalism, and situational awareness in stressful environments. Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and de-escalation skills. Strong interpersonal communication, empathy, and teamwork skills. Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced, diverse client environment. Understanding of industry-specific policies and confidentiality requirements (HIPAA). Basic math, bookkeeping, and computer literacy. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 18 years of age or older High School Diploma or equivalent Peer Recovery Specialist Certification (CPRS) by the Minnesota Certification Board Strong organizational and communication skills Valid driver’s license with clean driving record per company policy Ability to pass Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) Background Study Ability to work 40 hours per week (schedule determined by supervisor) Ability to immediately obtain and maintain mandatory certifications (e.g., CPR, Naloxone) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: CPRS with Forensic Endorsement (CPRS-FE) Two or more years of related experience Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 Experience using Procentive software WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Primarily in-person position with frequent client interaction. Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout the facility for extended periods. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds as needed. Ability to operate office and clinical equipment (computers, phones, copiers). Ability to provide safe transportation to clients, including driving and assisting clients entering/exiting vehicles. Ability to respond appropriately to stressful or emergent situations, including de-escalation and crisis support. Reliable attendance and punctuality in alignment with program needs and scheduled shifts. CONTINUED EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Attend mandatory staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of PBH policies, procedures, and best practices. Maintain required certifications and ongoing licensure as applicable.
