ADVENTURE CAMP COUNSELOR

Waypoints Springwood Outdoor Discovery Camp (www.springwoodnl.ca) is offering an opportunity to an enthusiastic, creative and outgoing individual to lead groups of youth as part of a team in rewarding summer camp outdoor experiences. Adventure Camp Counselors explore the great outdoors and develop leadership and team building skills in a group setting. Ideal candidates have a passion for working with youth, want to challenge themselves with new experiences, and will share their enthusiasm for outdoor adventure.

· Actively work together as part of the Springwood team to achieve a quality outdoor adventure experience for all youth.
· Ensure the safety, well-being and personal growth of youth.
· Be a supportive and constructive staff member dedicated to bringing out the best in one’s self, one’s staff and all users of Springwood.
· Demonstrate positive and professional role modeling at all times, acting in a manner that is consistent with the staff code of conduct and the philosophy, goals, and objectives of Springwood.
· Create a safe and enjoyable experience for youth and other staff while enjoying the great outdoors.
Maturity, self-accountability, understanding, patience, personal depth, enthusiasm, and a commitment of service to youth. In partnership with your staff team, provide constructive, responsible leadership and guidance for youth groups. Be a positive role model developing character, values, and confidence. Foster a supportive environment for all, encourage group leadership, and provide positive role modeling. Give instruction in skill development sessions. Work together with all staff to coordinate and implement daily programming. Assist in maintaining facilities and all common use areas in a clean, healthy and safe condition. Actively participate in all activities. Maintain open communication with other staff. Attend all staff meetings and other meetings as necessary.
Other job duties may include grounds maintenance and some labour work associated with developing and maintaining the camp facilities, painting, lawn mowing, etc. Candidates should be comfortable with activities at Springwood that include water activities, boating and working from heights. (high/low ropes challenge course/zip line onsite).
Springwood Outdoor Discovery Camp hosts many community and corporate groups for team building and staff development activities. Adventure Camp Counsellors will support these adult groups while visiting our facilities.
Candidates will be required to provide an acceptable Certificate of Conduct and agree to a Child Youth and Family Services Record Check.
Knowledge of group and interpersonal skills and willingness to learn how to apply appropriate techniques to effectively motivate youth in outdoor recreation activities.
This position is located on the Salmonier Line, 2km south of the TCH near the town of Holyrood, NL . Own transportation is required due to remoteness of location.

Contract length: 7 weeks
Pay: $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 35 per week
