Description Summer Food Service Assistant Location: Grand Rapids | Department: Programming | Status: Non-Exempt Summary Kids’ Food Basket believes all children have a right to equitable, consistent access to the nutrition they need to grow. Since 2002, we’ve grown from serving 125 students in Kent County to nourishing more than 11,000 children daily across four counties. As a Summer Food Service Assistant, you’ll play a hands-on role in delivering healthy food, supporting volunteers, and advancing our mission through our Foundations of Access, Education, and Agriculture. What You’ll Do Set up and clean up food packing and preparation stations, ensuring meals are safely and efficiently prepared Support and guide volunteer groups during food box packing shifts Drive a refrigerated van to transport meals to and from community meal sites Assist with food distribution, including loading boxes, tracking counts, and answering participant questions Move, organize, and inventory food and supplies using carts and pallet jacks Accept deliveries and prepare pallets for distribution to Kids’ Food Basket locations What You’ll Bring The Availability to work approximately 20 hours per week from June 1–August 13, including four-hour shifts on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with availability on Tuesdays from 8:30am–3:00pm or 12:00pm–8:00pm. A valid driver’s license and willingness to learn to drive a cargo van and use a pallet jack A high school diploma or equivalent Experience working with volunteers and an understanding of the volunteer experience Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills A self-motivated, energetic approach and comfort with hands-on, physical work (lifting up to 50 lbs.)
