Description Georgia Legal Services Program (“GLSP”) provides free legal services on a wide range of civil matters, including family law, housing, access to public benefits, eviction prevention, farmworkers rights, and access to education. Our team works to give our clients the means to escape abuse, feed their families, maintain their homes, and improve their quality of life. GLSP seeks to hire 1L or 2L summer legal interns. The legal intern will work in one of GLSP’s 10 regional offices in Georgia. GLSP has regional offices located in Atlanta, Albany, Augusta, Columbus, Dalton, Gainesville, and Macon. DUTIES: • Assist local attorneys with client cases in the areas of family law, housing, public benefits, education, health, and estate planning, and others. • Draft briefs, motions and memorandums in preparation for use in court and administrative hearings. • Conduct direct client interviews under the supervision of a licensed attorney. • Engage in monthly visits to local community centers to identify the legal needs of community members. • Conduct community legal education sessions and engage in outreach activities. • Produce quality legal research for assistance in client cases and the creation of pro se client materials. • Observe and participate in court proceedings for client’s cases. • Actively participate in weekly case review meetings. Requirements • Current law student who is a 2L or 1L at an ABA accredited law school. • Willingness and ability to work as part of a team in a professional and collaborative manner. • Must have reliable transportation and a valid license. • Ability and interest in working with diverse populations, backgrounds and perspectives. • Willingness to commute or temporarily relocate to the local office assigned for the internship period. • Ability to speak Spanish is highly valued. The internship period is ten weeks with the dates being negotiable. A $7,000 salary will be provided.
