QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently be studying a process or chemical engineering based undergraduate degree or relevant scientific degree
  • Knowledge of chemical plant unit operations, process scale-up, process improvement and service providing equipment desirable
  • Experience managing projects desirable
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, food or chemical plant environment desirable
  • Experience of analysis of complex data desirable
  • Be flexible to adapt to changing priorities and have a willingness to learn
  • Have high attention-to-detail and able to maintain accuracy
  • Have strong communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information to a wide range of audiences
  • Have a problem-solving mind-set with the ability to work independently
Responsibilities

We are currently recruiting for a Process Engineering Summer Intern based in Edinburgh. The 3-month placement, over the summer of 2025, will be an exciting opportunity to gain valuable practical industrial skills. The summer intern will support the Process Engineering Team Lead to provide process engineering support to Maintenance, Projects, Production, EHS (Environmental, Health and Safety) and Development departments within a cGMP environment.
This role will also Identify and manage small projects to improve manufacturing and energy efficiency to meet the business needs (including specific project requirements to time, quality, cost and safety).

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide Process Engineering Resource for Capital Projects (e.g. Process Flow, layouts, designs, capex investment cases) and Process/Plant Trouble Shooting as required.
  • Work closely with other Veranova Scotland Departments to assess and prioritise opportunities to improve processing efficiency, Right First time, environmental/health/safety/quality performance, and labour efficiency through engineering improvements.
  • Support small teams delivering improvements utilising process, maintenance, electrical and instrumentation engineering resource.
  • Evaluate costs across Scotland (Waste, Utility, Raw Materials) to reduce overall demand, deliver improvements and drive cost reduction across the business.
  • Develop systems for collecting and analysing production data to drive overall Scotland efficiency (yield, cycle time opportunities)
  • Support technical transfers by completing IDEA and EVALUATE stage gates to enable a high degree in confidence in successful transfers.
  • Observe all statutory and Company regulations regarding equipment design, installation, safety, health, welfare, and other matters, especially cGMP.
  • Work effectively with other factory managers.
  • Project team member for projects up to £500k in value.
  • To take on any other duties which are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
