The Legal Intern position resides in the Technology Policy department at CableLabs. This department manages public policy priorities within CableLabs and provides technical expertise to our members. Our team plays a crucial role in ensuring that policy matters are considered in CableLabs’ innovation process and that technology development is considered in members policy advocacy. Why This Internship Is Exciting You will have the opportunity to learn current policy priorities of the connectivity industry in areas such as spectrum, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, energy efficiency, and privacy. In addition, you can learn the workings of a typical in house counsel role with the Legal team. What You’ll Do Research and summarize government actions in the United States and abroad that may impact the industry. Review pending contracts. Participate in weekly meetings with outside entities that represent the larger technology ecosystem. Attend meetings with government agencies on behalf of CableLabs Qualifications What Is a Must Have Current enrollment in law school with completion of a 1L term before the start of the internship Basic legal research and writing skills Proficiency in Microsoft products Basic understanding of the technology space and the relevant agencies What Will Set You Apart Experience in contract review, administrative law, and/or intellectual property protection Job or academic experience in analysis of complex issues Publication of written products Working conditions and physical requirements This position is performed primarily in a remote (home-based) work environment. The employee is expected to maintain a quiet, professional workspace that supports productivity and confidentiality. Work is generally performed during standard business hours, though occasional schedule adjustments may be required to support business needs. The role involves frequent communication via email, telephone, video conferencing, and messaging platforms. The employee must have reliable internet access and the ability to work independently. While performing the duties of this position, the employee will regularly sit for extended periods and use a computer, keyboard, and mouse to complete tasks. The role requires frequent hand and finger dexterity for typing and operating office equipment, as well as the ability to read and interpret information on a computer screen.
