Description JOB TITLE: Summer Lifeguard REPORTS TO: Program Director and/or Site Coordinator FLSA TYPE: Non-Exempt, Hourly JOB PURPOSE: The YMCA is hiring Summer Lifeguards to provide a safe and welcoming environment for our community. The Lifeguard will administer functions related to guarding the pool and controlling activity on the pool deck and locker rooms as needed. They will have a direct focus on the safety of participants as well as good customer service. All staff must strive to work cooperatively with fellow employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the YMCA. PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (not a complete list): Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area. Maintains necessary skills required of a certified lifeguard by attending all trainings as required. Performs opening duties, closing duties, and maintains a clean environment Assists patrons by administering swim tests and lifejacket fitting. Knows all emergency procedures. Recognizes emergencies and responds immediately as they arise using all proper, trained skills. Completes related reports as required. Maintain pool area including cleaning, equipment, records, etc. Consistently recognize, remedy (if possible), and report safety hazards as they arise. Performs chemical testing and maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and the State Health Department code. Interpret and enforce pool rules & policies to ensure the safety of all participants and swimmers. Demonstrate relationship building skills in all interactions. Requirements Required: 15 years of age Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and First Aid, OR ability to obtain certification prior to employment. Training provided if needed. Preferred: Experience in an aquatic setting Knowledge of pool chemicals and record keeping Bilingual - English/Spanish
Responsibilities
