Job Description UKAEA’s Year in Industry placements provide students with the opportunity to work on real engineering projects, gaining practical skills and industry knowledge before returning to university to complete their degree. Learn from experienced engineers while developing technical and professional skills to support your studies and future career. Gain insight into the diverse engineering roles across UKAEA and contribute to work supporting the UK’s fusion energy mission. Work within the Integrated Engineering Division on one or more major projects, such as MAST-U upgrades, STEP fusion power plant concept design, or JET tokamak decommissioning. Contribute to the development of new technologies that support fusion and may have wider industrial applications. Undertake a range of engineering activities, which may include design substantiation and analysis, writing technical specifications, working with suppliers, overseeing manufacture, installation, and testing of equipment. Be part of a team providing full lifecycle engineering, from early concept design through detailed design, delivery, installation, and commissioning. Qualifications Studying towards a degree in Science or Engineering Confident with all Microsoft applications including Excel, Word and Powerpoint Driven, with a strong appetite to learn and take on new challenges Able to collaborate effectively and communicate clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences Well organised and adaptable with the ability to plan and prioritise workload Additional Information UKAEA’s mission is clean energy for all, and we welcome talented people from all backgrounds to help us achieve this goal.
