QUALIFICATIONS:

• Current enrolment in and planning to return in September to a post-secondary program in Municipal Law Enforcement, Police Foundations, Law & Security, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Public Policy, Law, or other related discipline.

SKILLS:

• Proficiency utilizing computer software including MS Office Suite.
• Sound conflict resolution skills with the ability to effectively and tactfully deal with the public.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• CSA approved work boots are required.
• Valid Class ‘G’ driver’s licence, a reliable vehicle, and clean driving record. (will receive mileage for using personal vehicle)
• Proven completion of Ministry of Labour Worker Health and Safety Awareness training.
• A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture.
• Proof of education will be required upon hire.

• Inspection of private, residential, commercial, industrial, and vacant land properties to identify contravention of City’s long grass and weeds by-law through collection and recording of evidence (e.g. documents, pictures, statements, interviews, observations, etc.)
• Advise of identified contraventions and requirements for compliance.
• Address and remedy contraventions as appropriate (e.g. serving orders, administrative penalty, or City Contractor etc.) including follow-up to ensure compliance.
• Maintain all documents in accordance with corporate policies and procedures, relevant Acts and applicable legislation

The City of St. Catharines is looking to fill a Summer Inspector, By-law Enforcement Student position.
