Department Student & Co-Op Placements Affiliation Non-Union Compensation Range $18.47 - $19.55 Job Summary The Town is currently looking for Summer Students to work in the Operations & Environmental Services Department. Job Duties Include The position is responsible for assisting in the administration of the Town of Ajax infrastructure inspection program and will work closely with the Asset Management Technologist to perform inspections of municipal infrastructure assets, collect asset information, assign conditional assessment values, and identify hazards and deficiencies. As necessary, the student may update asset inventories, perform minor contract layout, assist in contract administration, assist construction inspector with payment measurements, perform inspections as assigned. Qualifications/Skills Candidates must be enrolled in a Civil Engineering related program on a full-time basis both before and after the summer vacation period (see proof of enrollment requirement below), or enrolled in a co-op program where the completion of civil engineering related work experience is a pre-requisite to graduation. Excellent customer service and good interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to deal with the public courteously and efficiently. Strong communication skills, able to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions. Able to provide a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check that is satisfactory to the Town. Students hired to drive Town vehicles will be required to hold a valid "G" driver’s license and have a clean driving record. Candidates must be physically able to perform all duties including heavy lifting, prolonged standing and walking on uneven surfaces. Candidates are expected to work in all weather conditions. Term of Employment May 4, 2026 to August 28, 2026 Candidates must be available to work the entire four (4) month period. Must be available to work 40 hours per week. Proof of Enrollment in Post Secondary Education To be eligible for a summer student position with the Town of Ajax you must be currently enrolled in post-secondary studies in college or university. Documentation of school enrollment is required. The Town will accept any of the following to verify enrollment in a college or university program: Registrar’s letter confirming enrollment and academic eligibility for the next semester; Letter confirming your anticipated graduation date; Letter indicating that you have more credits left to complete in your current degree; Letter confirming your application to a program next term/semester at a post-secondary education establishment. Documents required upon accepting the position, if hired Proof of student status (see requirement above); SIN card or official documentation from the CRA (including Work Permit, if applicable); Void cheque or direct deposit information; Copy of your driver's license; Current (dated within 6 months) Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to the Town of Ajax.
