JOB SUMMARY
Laboratory Services provides laboratory testing services for drinking water, solid wastes, effluents, receiving waters and ground waters.
You perform selected chemical and bacteriological analyses and/or preparation procedures on samples submitted by clients. Samples include drinking water, surface water, stormwater and sewage.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Post-secondary Student - completion of second year college or university in Chemistry or Biochemistry, including successful completion of laboratory courses.
Minimum of 8 months but less than 1 year of related experience is required, including experience working in a laboratory environment.
KNOWLEDGE
- Laboratory practices, techniques and procedures used in chemical and/or bacteriological analyses
- Operations and applications of various laboratory equipment
- Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act, including the rights and duties of workers
- The Ontario Safe Drinking Water Act and ensuing regulations.
- ISO 17025 accreditation requirements

- Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.
- Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
