Position: Summer Student Process Operator - Temporary
Location: On site, Fort Saskatchewan CSC, AB
Work Shift: 12h rotation, day shift only
Reports to: Plant Manager
Compensation: 30.00$/h
JOB DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for manufacturing chemicals and loading chemicals for transport into vessels including tanker trailers, rail cars, and totes.
Due to the hazardous nature of the chemicals being handled and stored, this position requires an extremely safety conscientious individual with a highly developed safety attitude and safety focus combined with the ability to demonstrate a high and sustainable focus on attention to detail.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Student in Chemical Technology or Chemical Engineering
- Must always place safety first.
- Able to wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
- Must have the ability to perform basic math functions.
- Must possess excellent customer service skills, verbal and written communication skills, and computer knowledge.
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with a minimum of supervision, is highly motivated, energetic, and enjoys working as part of a team

Responsibilities:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Control and monitor plant and equipment within the scope of authority
- Monitoring meter and instrument readings and making necessary adjustments
- Observes pressure, temperature, level, and flow gauges to ensure standard operation
- Testing samples for quality purposes
- Fills railcars, trailers and drums and records quantity.
- Cleaning and preparing equipment, and minor maintenance work.
- Fills out log sheets, specifying tare and gross weight, and date filled, and records data.
- Perform all required pre-fill and post-fill inspections and tests before containers are released.
- Ensures records are accurately maintained and that all required procedures are followed in accordance with local, provincial, and federal regulations.
- Maintains a neat, clean, and orderly work area.
- Performs mathematical calculations related to filling capacities as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES
Product Loading
- Load Aluminum Sulfate products, Sulfuric Acid, Sodium Bisulfite (SBS) and MSX 2000 tank trucks and tank cars following established procedures that meet safety, regulatory, and quality requirements.
- Inspect tank trucks and tank cars.
- Complete shipping documentation.
Sulphuric Acid Receiving
- Inspect and receive Sulfuric Acid via pipeline or tank car. Control tank levels and conduct daily inventories.
- Monitor acid receipts and shipments. Input data onto excel log sheet.
- Conduct daily quality assurance testing and enter data onto excel log sheet.
Site Maintenance
- Assist operations staff with site maintenance activities; equipment preventative maintenance, snow removal, house & grounds keeping, painting, etc.
