Job Summary Reporting to Supervisor, Municipal Law Enforcement, Summer Student will act as a Community Ambassador for the City by proactively patrolling the City of Markham to collect illegally erected lawn signs and educating the public on the Sign By-law and Keep Markham Beautiful By-law as needed.  Job Tasks Support the enforcement of the City's regulatory By-laws, including the following:  * Sign removal as per the Sign By-law: * As per the direction from the Supervisor, Municipal Law Enforcement, patrols assigned route using a City Vehicle to remove signs, posters etc. from municipal/public property in accordance with municipal By-laws, including proactively responding to requests from the public through the Contact Centre to have signs removed from their property. * Keep Markham Beautiful By-law: * Distribute flyers to educate the public on Lawn Maintenance requirements. * Other duties as assigned. Requirements   * Currently enrolled in a Post-secondary institution, preferably police foundations, criminology, law or a related field * Submission and maintenance of a valid Ontario Class G Driver's License. As a condition of employment you will be required to provide and maintain a satisfactory driver's abstract (no demerit points plus no more than 2 infractions - maximum of one moving and one non-moving conviction.   * Submission and maintenance of a satisfactory Criminal Record Check. * Excellent customer service skills and sensitivity to interact with a diverse general population * Good decision making skills * Ability to work independently with minimal supervision * Good conflict resolution skills * An excellent attendance record is essential  * Professional and neat appearances at all times * Acts in a professional manner when engaging with internal and external stakeholders * Note: The schedule for this position is Monday to Friday, 8:00AM to 4:00PM.
