Job Summary   You will perform a range of duties under the direction of a Working Supervisor. You will assist in general grounds maintenance such as playgrounds, athletic facilities, parks and boulevards, mowing grass, trimming, annual planting of flowers, trees and shrubs. You may also assist with the activities required as part of the City of Markham special events.   These positions may operate 7 days a week and may include early mornings, weekends and some evenings. There is also an opportunity for students to work on the water truck.  The hours of work for this opportunity is 5:30 am to 2 pm.  The rate of pay for this opportunity is $20.18.     Responsibilities    * Perform general grounds maintenance within parks, facilities, boulevards and park amenities.   * Operate push mowers, ride on mowers, cord trimmers etc.   * Participate in seasonal planting to include pulling weeds, planting flowers, shrubs, trees.   * Assist with the preparation and clean up of special events.   * Participate in litter clean up.   * Other duties as assigned.    Requirements    * Enrolment in a related course is an asset.   * Must be available to commence training on May 4, 2026. * Previous work experience using push mowers, ride on mowers, tractors and cord trimmers.   * Knowledge and experience of general gardening is an asset.   * Able to perform constant standing, walking, bending and crawling.   * Must be physically capable of performing the essential duties of the job including lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling.   * Good customer service and interpersonal skills for day to day interaction with the public.   * Strong team player.   * Ability to work in a variety of outdoor weather conditions.   * A valid class "G1" or greater driver's license is preferred.   * Must be available to work weekend, early mornings and/or evenings as required.   * Must be available to commence full-time employment in May and work the entire season until Labour Day.   Core Behaviours * Service Excellence: Meets or exceeds service standards when interacting with customers in the community and in the organization.   * Change & Innovation: Responds positively and professionally to change and helps others through change.   * Teamwork & Relationship Building: Interacts with others in an inclusive, collaborative and respectful way that creates effective working relationships.   * Communication: Communicates in a clear, professional and respectful way; demonstrates active listening.   * Accountable & Results Oriented: Demonstrates ethical behaviour and accountability, aligns with City values, and abides by relevant policies and legislation.   * Management & Leadership: Demonstrates self-management, professionalism and engagement; leads by example.    The City of Markham is committed to inclusive, accessible and barrier free employment practices and to creating a workplace that reflects and supports the diversity of the community we serve.
