ABOUT THE COMPANY

Momiji Health Care Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the independence, health, and quality of life of senior citizens, primarily of Japanese-Canadian descent. Our team is passionate about meeting the needs of our senior citizens and is committed to working collaboratively and openly with a results-oriented approach.
We are currently seeking a Superintendent Assistant to support the maintenance and housing department. This is a full-time, onsite position with varying hours, including occasional overnight, evening, and weekend shifts. You will be working 37.5 hours per week.

SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check
  • Tuberculosis Test
  • Knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing)
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations, including building codes, occupational health and safety, WSIB, and other related by-laws.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Experience working in building maintenance, particularly in seniors or subsidized housing, is an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Computer literacy and ability to manage staff effectively.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks as required.
  • A valid driver’s license is preferred.
  • Japanese-language skills are an asset.
Responsibilities

THE ROLE:

As the Superintendent Assistant (SA), you will play a key role in supporting the daily maintenance and operations of the building and premises. Working closely with the Manager of Seniors Residence and Environment, you will assist in ensuring that mechanical systems are well-maintained, that the building remains clean and safe, and that tenant needs are addressed efficiently and respectfully. You will also supervise the work of Maintenance Workers and provide essential support during emergencies, maintenance work, and special events.
The successful candidate will have practical maintenance skills, excellent judgment, and have strong teamwork skills.
The role will have multiple maintenance workers as its direct reports.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with building emergencies and conduct regular security checks, especially during overnight hours.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment, reporting low stock when needed.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors as required.
  • Respond to tenant requests and minor work orders in a timely, courteous manner.
  • Assist with event setups, moving furniture, deliveries, and garbage disposal.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to Maintenance Workers.
  • Exercise discretion and professionalism in handling tenant concerns.
