LOCATION: KAPUSKASING, ON

GreenFirst is looking for a Production Superintendent to plan, organize and direct operations (sawmill and planer mill) to ensure consistent production of high-quality products at the lowest possible cost and to also maintain the alignment of the sawmill and planing mills with the principles and objectives defined in the Results Management Framework, working within the concept of optimizing the overall profitability of the site.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in lumber or wood products manufacturing – required.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills are required.
  • Proven ability to lead and supervise teams in a unionized environment and promote a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – conflict management, coaching, supportive feedback, and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in a complex and fast paced manufacturing environment.
  • Must be computer literate, including a strong knowledge with MS Office products (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
  • Leadership Skills.
  • Bilingual (English and French) – an asset
Responsibilities
  • Promote and provide a safe workplace, seek improvements, support Health & Safety Program.
  • Lead a motivated, efficient and engaged team of direct reports and provide career development opportunities.
  • Coach and mentor employees to ensure maximum performance.
  • Support compliance with collective agreement and sound union/management/employee relations.
  • Maintain a communications program to keep your team informed regarding mill and department priorities
  • Reports to: General Manager
  • Establish the production schedules and coordinate manufacturing operations in cooperation with the various departments to ensure that product quality meets specifications.
  • Manage operations with a focus on maintaining or reducing the annual budget and generating an optimal profit margin on converted products.
  • Optimize use of human resources by promoting good labour relations, sound training, health, safety and environmental practices to maximize efficiency.
  • Develop and implement plans to efficiently use materials, labour and equipment to meet production targets and financial objectives (cost control and reduction).
  • Keep production schedules up-to-date to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, specifications and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.
  • Implement manufacturing of value-added products.
  • Collaborate with other staff to develop and implement processes for continuous improvement in quality and production.
  • Promote sound management and ensure that training needs of operations are identified and completed.
  • Comply with Company rules, policies, programs and procedures as well as all health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • In conjunction with other operating departments, determine the manning composition required for the site and the necessary training required to meet manning objectives.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
