The Supervising Engineer will oversee the M&E engineers and provide engineering support to VIVO and the sites they are responsible for, as well as the projects teams. You will act as an independent professional advisor for high-risk engineering systems, by offering assurance in the implementation, administration, monitoring, and audit process of the safe systems of work, as defined by JSP375 for the nominated disciplines.
The Supervising Engineer will support the East region’s M&E Engineers network to accept responsibility for the practical implementation and operation of JSP375 to support the effective and timely delivery of Billable Works, planned and response maintenance, provide guidance to ensure as far as reasonably practical that all persons within the area you deliver services observe the requirements of JSP375, provide consistency and guidance on the Engineers’ assessment of the competence of Skilled Persons to ensure suitably qualified and experienced operatives are directed to relevant tasks and review experience and performance regularly.
This role will see you provide oversight and support in the consistent production of high quality Risk Assessments and Method Statements and, the methodology and rational for issuing safety programmes and Permits to Work, provide professional and technical support and advice to VIVO engineers, site team, Supply Chain, DIO and end users, implement and maintain a process for recording all tasks against the appropriate assets in the Maximo system and ensure all documentation relating to jobs is completed, recorded and distributed in a timely manner, support the Senior Engineers and Appointed Engineers to advise on project work as directed by Management and confer with the Billable Works team to ensure that all information is provided to allow the Project Managers to ensure that the works are completed to the required standards.
You will also take ownership of reviewing site risk registers with the senior engineers, supporting them in the reduction of the number of corrective actions (CARs) raised and close existing CARs within agreed timescales, taking an active role in the implementation of senior engineers’ personal training plans, supporting their requirements for familiarisation and knowledge across all sites within their area you are responsible, supporting and mentoring the engineers to maintain accurate records within their personal log books for site attendance and activities undertaken and holding regular meetings with the East region’s engineering team to establish best practice, improved communications and sharing lessons learnt for continuous improvement.
This role will see you take a hands on approach, and you will split your time across sites in all 4 counties. Your role will entail a mix of ’on the tools’ and office based duties, such as attending stakeholder meetings, producing reports, etc.
What You Need To Do The Job
First and foremost, you must hold HNC/HND or related qualification in Electrical, Mechanical or Petroleum Engineering and hold SMSTS, and be prepared to undertake additional training across the other disciplines to be able to confidently provide guidance to all engineers across all disciplines.
In addition to this, you will need Emergency First Aid and Fire Safety accreditations.
It is important that you have Supervisory or Management experience within a planned and reactive maintenance engineering environment, with the proven ability to manage, mentor and support your team with a strong focus on health and safety and quality control. Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence, guide and challenge in a positive manner will be vital to your success in this position.
We expect our Supervising Engineer to lead by example, maintain a positive and collaborative working environment, and have a good understanding of continuous improvement.
Good IT skills are essential to this role, and you should be a confident user of Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, Word and VISIO.
Please note: This role is a mobile position and as such will involve travel between all sites in the East Region. You must hold a full UK driving licence to be considered for this role, as well as the ability to pass SC Clearance.
