The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the oldest student association in Canada and has been a central student organization at Queen's since its founding in 1858. Today, the AMS acts as a service, advocacy, and governing body on behalf of all students enrolled in AMS-affiliated programs at Queen's University. The AMS is a not-for-profit entity created by the Society to ensure its continuing financial viability by overseeing the management of its services and associated financial affairs. It is bound by the By-laws and corporate philosophy of our Mission and Operating statements as set out in the AMS Constitution. In addition to providing wage-based service staff positions for students wanting employment, the AMS seeks to support the Society's broader objectives through the provisioning of a high quality, relevant range of student funded services, that provide a wide range of employment opportunities and meaningful out-of-classroom learning and skill acquisition experiences for students. Job Summary Due to the nature of this position, all applicants must have a valid security license, first aid certification, and smart serve. The Queens StuCons (QSC) is a student safety service that embodies the unique idea of students responsible for students. QSC works to uphold the AMS and university rules and regulations at sanctioned events and venues. Most often, we can be found working at The Underground, the Queens Pub (QP), Clark Hall Pub (CHP), sporting events, concerts, speaker series, conferences and formal events. The QSC is the only service of its kind in North America, which represents the commitment of the AMS to the tradition of students abilities to lead and supervise each other. QSC offers an exciting and dynamic work environment, where challenges regularly require staff to make sound judgments and leadership decisions, while interacting with staff and students from a large diversity of backgrounds. Responsibilities To provide pleasant and efficient service to every customer. Strive to foster a warm and comfortable atmosphere for customers and coworkers. Work all scheduled shifts and find a replacement for any shift you are unable to work Arrive at the start time of your shift in uniform and ready to begin working. Attend all mandatory training sessions and staff meetings; complete all evaluations and attend evaluation meetings. Always serve as a representative of the AMS and its mission statement. Work with all co-managers to train and supervise service staff members Supervise and discipline service staff on-shift while ensuring a positive working environment Respond to all customer concerns while on shift Ensure the safety of all patrons and staff while Manager on Duty Exhibit working knowledge of the Liquor License Act and ensuring the pub staff act in compliance. Constantly train and monitor staff to ensure their compliance with these standards Attend at least 2-3 promotional events and staff socials throughout each term to help support upper management and facilitate a healthy team environment.
