Responsibilities
  • Leading and supervising a small team of Building Officials, including recruitment, training, scheduling, and performance management
  • Reviewing and approving building and plumbing permit applications for compliance with applicable codes, bylaws, and standards
  • Providing technical guidance and interpretation to contractors, consultants, and applicants on required design changes
  • Issuing permits, occupancy approvals, and enforcement notices such as Stop Work Orders and Notices of Violation
  • Conducting site visits and inspections to ensure safety and compliance, specifying corrective actions where required
  • Investigating and resolving complaints and infractions related to construction
  • Acting as the City’s expert resource on the National Building Code, National Plumbing Code, and other applicable bylaws and standards
  • Leading departmental projects focused on process improvement, permitting modernization, and policy/bylaw updates
  • Preparing reports and statistics for senior management and elected officials
  • Monitoring operating and capital budgets under the direction of the Manager
  • Responding to public, contractor, consultant, and agency inquiries to support timely and efficient service delivery
