Responsibilities:
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Overseeing exploration activity including geological/geotechnical logging, core cutting, etc.
- Safety management and leadership, working in an active open pit environment (haul trucks and other mobile equipment, blasting).
- Supervising and liaising with exploration employees and contractors (drilling, geophysical, etc.)
- Exploration employee and contractor management including hiring, scheduling, tracking, coordinating access to the mine site, safety document management, and timesheet/shift report approvals.
- Assessing lithology, alteration and mineralization in an alkalic porphyry copper-gold system.
- Coordinating with other mine departments as necessary (mine operations, geology, etc.).
- Reviewing drill core logs and data provided by geological and geotechnical staff.
- Providing information for daily and weekly progress reports to management.
- Planning and facilitating drilling programs (monitoring drilling progress and requirements including personnel, deciding drill hole terminations, assisting in drill hole planning).
- Coordinating with on-site surveyors, drillers, and contractors for surveying collars, building roads/pads.
- Managing drill hole logging software and database system used to collect and file information.
- Routinely generating and reviewing interpretive plans and sections on paper and digitally.
- Prospecting and mapping of target areas, geochemical sampling (rock, soil, silt, till).
- May include occasional work (grassroots to advanced stage exploration) on other Centerra Gold exploration properties.
- Deposit modelling for Exploration office using relevant software.
- Analysis and modelling of geochemical data from drilling or surface samples using relevant software.
- Documenting/developing standard operating procedures and instructing/training new hires, including regular performance reviews.
- Ensuring compliance with Provincial, Corporate and Mount Milligan health & safety and environmental regulations and policies (includes incident reporting, conducting toolbox meetings, work site inspections etc.).
- Supporting the Exploration Manager and Superintendent in their duties and responsibilities (targeting, technical presentations, reporting, etc.)
The following will be critical to successfully perform this role:
- Geology or geoscience related university degree(s).
- Active member (P.Geo.) of EGBC or equivalent provincial/territorial professional association preferred.
- Minimum 5 years work experience in mineral exploration and/or production geology.
- Sound level of computer literacy with previous exposure to Windows Office products.
- Working knowledge and experience with geological databases, GIS systems, or modeling applications (ArcGIS, MapInfo, MineSight, Leapfrog, IoGas, AcQuire).
- Professional attitude, teamwork-oriented collaboration and problem-solving skills in a respectful and safety-oriented environment, good interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
- Capable of operating a pick-up truck in an open pit and on remote exploration/logging roads.
- The position may require lifting and carrying boxes of drill core, field samples, etc.
- Must be able to hike in remote forested locations to complete tasks such as mapping, sampling, scouting, flagging, etc.
- Available to work in remote camps on a rotational schedule
