Job Summary The Supervisor-GIS is the team lead for the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) section within the Department, providing leadership, technical expertise, and project oversight for mapping, spatial analysis, and data management initiatives. This position supervises GIS staff, coordinates with other departments and agencies, ensures data accuracy and consistency, and supports planning initiatives through high-quality spatial data and analysis tools. Job Description Overview The Supervisor-GIS is the team lead for the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) section within the Department, providing leadership, technical expertise, and project oversight for mapping, spatial analysis, and data management initiatives. This position supervises GIS staff, coordinates with other departments and agencies, ensures data accuracy and consistency, and supports planning initiatives through high-quality spatial data and analysis tools. Essential Functions 1 Designs, develops, and maintains enterprise GIS databases and applications. 2 Plans, coordinates, and manages the implementation of the GIS development process in order to integrate all necessary information into the system. 3 Collaborates with planning staff to perform spatial analyses and to produce maps, data reports and visualizations to support land use planning and zoning programs, 4 Develops custom GIS tools, dashboards, and web mapping applications. 5 Develops and enforces policies, procedures, and standards for the operation and maintenance of the department’s GIS. 6 Coordinates and manages, with department leadership guidance, updates and enhancements to GIS technology or server networks including recommendations for upgrades for hardware, software, and installation. 7 Supervises, trains, and evaluates GIS analysts, technicians, and interns to provide GIS, plat, legal notification, zoning mapping, and graphics services to City Council, City departments, and public sector clients on request. 8 Establishes work priorities, schedules, and performance goals for GIS staff. 9 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned. Knowledge and Skills 1 Thorough knowledge of GIS technologies, hardware, and software. 2 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. 3 Ability to supervise technical staff. 4 Ability to formulate, plan, supervise and implement policies concerning GIS operation and training. 5 Experience with scripting languages (Python, Arcade, SQL) preferred. 6 Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills. 7 Excellent communication and leadership abilities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Planning, Computer Science, or Planning-related field. EXPERIENCE Five (5) years of experience in GIS analysis, delivery, and technical delivery AND Two (2) years of supervisory/lead work experience (This experience may be included in the required experience listed above). EQUIVALENCIES High school diploma or GED plus nine (9) years of the required experience, including two (2) years of supervisory/lead work experience will meet the education and experience requirements. Associate degree in any field plus seven (7) years of the required experience including two (2) years of supervisory/lead work experience will meet the education and experience requirements. Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a non-specified field plus seven (7) years of the required experience including two (2) years of supervisory/lead work experience will meet the education and experience requirements. Master’s degree (or higher) in a specified field plus three (3) years of the required experience including two (2) years of supervisory/lead work experience will meet the education and experience requirements. Salary Range $66,747.20 - $83,428.80 The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
