SDUK’s brands include the Nation’s favourite cheese brand Cathedral City plus other well-known butter & spreads (Clover, Country Life, Vitalite, Utterly Butterly), functional ingredients and dairy free products.
This key role within the business will make a real difference, ensuring the quality of our products being produced at our Davidstow site – ranging from whey products to Cathedral City and Davidstow cheddar.
In this role, you will be delivering analytical chemistry and microbiological testing services to support technical services projects and departmental aims. We will offer opportunity for you to cross-train if you have strength in one area in particular.
As part of the Davidstow laboratory team, you will be a hands-on dedicated resource with supervisory responsibilities across a shift team of four analysts, where you will drive a significant amount of investigatory and analytical work as required to deliver projects in the required timeframe and to deliver specialist product release testing.
You will be responsible for the documentation and reporting of investigatory results and the upkeep of all methodologies, with accountability for the completion of SDUK due diligence testing, ensuring approved SOPs are validated, trained and followed.
This is a shift-based role, working 3-on/3-off – 7am-7pm

Responsibilities
  • Educated to Degree level (or equivalent) in a scientific subject, preferably Microbiology or Chemistry
  • Experienced in a working professional laboratory with analysis and routine testing responsibilities
  • Experienced at a team leader or supervisor capacity, with a leadership style that sets a positive example and reflects Saputo’s core values of quality and integrity
  • Demonstratable hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation such as ICP and/or GC-MS
  • Knowledgeable of laboratory accreditation and proficiency schemes
  • A proven problem-solver with the ability to apply statistical techniques
  • Able to demonstrate an ability to follow routine testing processes and support with validation of different processes
  • Able to work without direct supervision and a good communicator
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of relevant H&S protocols and practices (PPE, COSHH, chemical spills)
