Description
Directly plans and supervises the activities of the hourly Production employees to ensure that railroad freight cars are repaired within the established industry and company standards for productivity and quality. Responsible for the training and safety of subordinates. Responsible for simple disassembly of component parts through complex milling and boring to stringent specifications. This challenge is accentuated by differing arrangements of freight car truck components requiring the use of special gages to determine accuracy of repairs performed. Work is performed on a production line and is measured against specific time and method standards. Incumbent is responsible for scheduling repairs and maintaining equipment in the work area. Responsible for maintaining a neat, clean, clutter free shop. Responsible for keeping all reports, shop write-ups, performance reviews current. Responsible for presenting a professional, business like atmosphere which encourages a low absenteeism, and turnover rate. Responsible for keeping own training current and remaining informed of all AAR, FRA TTX rules and regulations. QUALIFICATIONS * Formal education, high school or equivalent * Knowledge: mechanical skills * Skills: welding and cutting * Must pass company established welding test. * Mental factors: Decision making and reasoning, planning and scheduling * Preferred: Ability to speak, understand, and read English proficiently  PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Standing, hearing, and seeing for 10 hours, handling for 6 hours, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and fingering for 5 hours reaching below waist, twisting, and feeling for 2 hours, sitting, climbing, balancing, crawling, reaching over head, and talking for 1 hour. Frequently: standing, kneeling, stretching, reaching, gripping tools or objects and bending at the waist. Regularly: walking, crouching, and twisting while standing. Occasionally: sitting, crawling, and twisting while sitting for 1 hour or less. Lifting: car parts from 1-50lbs for 10 hours (10-25lbs frequently, 25-50lbs regularly) Pushing: hand trucks weighing up to 100 lbs to move tools frequently, wrenches weighing up to 10 lbs to tighten bolts Pulling: 10-25 lbs frequently, 25-50lbs regularly, over 50 lbs occasionally, cables up to 100lbs to pull lines regularly Requires indoor work 8 hours per day, and outdoor work 2 hours per day. Exposure to heat and humidity, working at heights regularly, working around moving machinery Exposure to welding and burning fumes, odors, dust, gases, and uncomfortable noises from welding and burning, working in hot temperatures regularly, working in cold temperatures occasionally, driving automotive equipment, working with oil and grease, working with vibrations, and working alone occasionally. Hazard exposure: mechanical from tools, electrical from welders, radiant energy from torches
