The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the oldest student association in Canada and has been a central student organization at Queen's since its founding in 1858. Today, the AMS acts as a service, advocacy, and governing body on behalf of all students enrolled in AMS-affiliated programs at Queen's University. The AMS is a not-for-profit entity created by the Society to ensure its continuing financial viability by overseeing the management of its services and associated financial affairs. It is bound by the By-laws and corporate philosophy of our Mission and Operating statements as set out in the AMS Constitution. In addition to providing wage-based service staff positions for students wanting employment, the AMS seeks to support the Society's broader objectives through the provisioning of a high quality, relevant range of student funded services, that provide a wide range of employment opportunities and meaningful out-of-classroom learning and skill acquisition experiences for students. Job Summary The AMS Pub Services provides a safe environment on campus for all students to experience quality service, affordable prices, and the spirit of Queen's tradition Job Duties Work in compliance with all QPR Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) while actively providing the Perfect Guest Experience (PGE) Have an understanding of all QPR SOP’s and actively ensure they are being met and maintained by all staff while working. Attend training and work in compliance with Ontario Smart Serve and Queen’s University alcohol service requirements and ensure all staff are adhering to all regulations and legislations. Have an understanding of all job roles within QPR and have ability to support staff and fill in where and when needed. Monitor and observe guests dining experience to ensure guests are satisfied with the food and service and respond promptly and courteously to correct any problems. Exhibit working knowledge of Health and Safety Standards with respect to commercial food preparation. Constantly train and monitor staff to ensure their compliance with these standards. Help with deliveries, inventory and marketing events Understand and help staff with the POS system. Receive shipments and deal with vouchers Understand and correctly retrieve products from storage rooms. Prepare cash floats for the next manager on duty Act as a Manager-On-Duty when assigned, overseeing the general operations of the service and fulfilling all management duties associated with this. Always serve as a representative of the AMS and its mission statement. Monitor volunteer performance to ensure it is being performed to established standards to mitigate disciplinary action in accordance with established procedures and notify Restaurant & Head Manager of any issues that arise Assist with new employee training by positively reinforcing successful performance and giving respectful and encouraging coaching as needed Maintain a calm demeanour during periods of high volume or unusual events to set a positive example for your team Attend and fully participate in all in person and virtual meetings Maintain timely communication with your direct supervisor Complete other duties as assigned Job Requirements Ability to supervise and motivate a team to achieve and exceed their goals Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment Demonstrated time management skills Ability to remain calm and poised in urgent situations Possess strong organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills Work Conditions Interaction with employees, management and the public at large Flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays Extended periods of standing, and other physically demanding conditions The AMS is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of age, race, religion, colour, disability, sex, sexual orientation, or national origin.
