Job Title: Supervisor Scalehouse Location: Columbus Junction, IA (Onsite) Salary: $60K+ / year (DOE) + Annual Incentive Job Overview This is a training-based entry role in hog procurement operations, starting in livestock handling at the plant and progressing toward a future role in hog buying. The selected candidate will learn livestock receiving operations, procurement programs, and buying procedures while gaining hands-on industry experience. Key Responsibilities Sort, count, weigh, tattoo, and identify livestock per segregation programs Work in livestock receiving alleys at the plant Train with experienced hog buyers in the field Support scheduling of livestock deliveries Provide vacation coverage for hog buyers after training Learn procurement systems including carcass merit, weight docks, and harvest sheets Ensure compliance with company SOPs, USDA regulations, and safety standards Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture OR livestock production background required May 2026 graduates will be considered (offer contingent on degree completion) Strong interest or exposure to livestock industry preferred Basic computer skills Strong communication and record-keeping skills Ability to follow strict SOPs and safety protocols Work Conditions Must wear PPE: hard hat, steel-toe boots, hearing protection Standing/walking for full shift Seasonal temperature variation in work environment Occasional moderate to heavy physical effort required Overnight travel may be required Preferred Traits Detail-oriented and organized Strong communication and teamwork skills Willingness to work in field + plant environment Interest in livestock procurement and agricultural operations Additional Notes Limited supervisory responsibilities during training phase Full training provided for hog procurement pathway role Would you like to know more about this opportunity?
