School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering – Faculty of EAIT Full-time (100%), fixed-term position from 6 March 2026 until 12 April 2027 Base salary will be in the range $102,565.37 - $111,686.39 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 7) Visa sponsorship is not available for this position Based at our St Lucia Campus - Brisbane About This Opportunity We are seeking a dynamic individual to step into a pivotal role covering parental leave, leading the academic and student administration team for our School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering. You will be responsible for driving the efficient management of academic and student administration processes, ensuring seamless operations that empower our staff and students to thrive. Your leadership will directly enhance the School’s ability to achieve its core objectives in teaching excellence and an outstanding student experience. Key responsibilities will include: Resource Management: Lead and effectively manage the professional staff team (3 team members) to achieve positive outcomes, maintain a high-performing culture, and ensure flexible deployment through monitored workloads and support learning development. Oversee staff supervision, performance appraisal, development, resource management across multiple locations, budgeting and activity review, and manage the appointment of casual academic staff in line with approved budgets and UQ policy. Teaching and Assessment Support: Manage and oversee teaching and assessment support while fostering continuous improvement through effective processes. Maintain accurate student, course, and program information in collaboration with the Faculty, and manage student misconduct and grievances. Liaison and Advisory: Provide timely, accurate advice on teaching and assessment policies, and support the School’s Senior Executive by interpreting rules, forming recommendations, and preparing submissions on complex student matters, including misconduct cases. Committee and Event Support: Oversee governance and committee documentation, act as secretary to required committees, and represent the unit on Faculty and University working groups. Demonstrated leadership skills in building a strong, positive culture within a complex and geographically disbursed operating environment. Excellent interpersonal skills including a demonstrated history of building and maintaining productive working relationships with other organisational units. Demonstrated effectiveness in the quality delivery of services including a high-level of client service within an environment of constrained resources. Demonstrated expertise in using large student administration systems and associated corporate systems to source data and deliver reports. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to write with clarity and precision. A thorough knowledge of student and academic administration legislation, policies and procedures, and the ability to interpret, apply and provide high level advice, including developing policy statements, preparing position papers, detailed reports and other submissions. A track record of commitment to a culture of continuous improvement and working autonomously, including the ability to identify areas for improvement, lead reviews and successfully implement new business processes.
