Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems Sector has an opening for a
Supplier Manufacturing Engineering Operations (SME-Ops) – Senior Principal Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.
This position is located in St. Augustine, FL.
We are seeking a highly organized and technically proficient individual to support the Supplier Manufacturing Engineering Operations (SME-Ops) function for E-2 program. This role is critical in enabling successful supplier technical oversite and engagement and onsite technical support for St. Austine production.
The individual will be responsible for overseeing and implementing essential SME services, including management of supplier Requests for Change/Information (RCIs), authoring and maintaining Supplier Tooling Manuals, processing Tool Notifications, assigning ABLE Codes, performing Technical Evaluations, and managing Liaison Action Requests (LARs).
As a key technical point of contact, the individual will represent engineering interests across Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), provide on-site supplier technical support, and collaborate with Global Supply Chain and Air Vehicle Engineering to ensure supplier readiness and alignment with production schedules and configuration. The role also includes supporting international suppliers, export compliance efforts, and cross-functional initiatives for improved sourcing strategies and tooling solutions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 8 years of relevant engineering experience in procurement support, tooling evaluation, and technical liaison roles ; or Masters Degree in STEM discipline and 6 years of engineering experience in procurement support, tooling evaluation, and technical liaison roles; or PhD in STEM discipline and 4 years of engineering experience in procurement support, tooling evaluation, and technical liaison roles
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access within a reasonable period of time as determined by the needs of the business
  • Strong background in supplier manufacturing engineering, aerospace preferred
  • Familiarity with systems such as SRCI, and ABLE Coding
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive process standardization

Responsibilities
  • Supporting RCI requests are required with Engineering and supplier
  • Process Tool Notifications and evaluate supplier tooling proposals
  • Assign ABLE Codes and participate in PRD reviews
  • Perform Technical Evaluations and manage LARs
  • Serve as Technical POC for IPTs and support supplier interface with Air Vehicle engineering
  • Facilitate international supplier technical support and export compliance (EEMS, HTS, JC, DSEA)
  • Support work transfers, design reviews, and ROM impact estimates as required
  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration with Strategic Sourcing and Manufacturing Field Engineering
  • Strong understanding of Sheet metal detail part and assembly fabrication
  • Ability to conduct Root Cause Corrective Action investigations in Support of production Constraints.
  • Understanding of both metallic and non-metallic composite structures
