JOB DESCRIPTION

BAE Systems is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer to manage supplier-specific requirements and offer technical support to suppliers. In this role, the Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the products produced meet quality standards required to minimize quality costs and maximize customer satisfaction while ensuring that procedures and processes are compliant.

This position is “fully remote” with travel of up to 50% in support of our supplier relationships. Ideally, the candidate should be located within a reasonable commute of either of these cities:

• Sterling Heights, Michigan
• Huntsville, Alabama

A self-starter and problem solver, the Supplier Quality Engineer utilizes their analytical skills to find innovative solutions to quality-related issues. Using their exceptional communication skills, they’ll ensure suppliers understand requirements and expectations. Utilizing metrics and analytical tools, the Engineer will quantify performance levels of individual suppliers and work with suppliers to develop improvement plans to achieve 100% Quality performance:

• Evaluate the impact of nonconforming product and assess suppliers’ corrective actions;
• Champion problem solving and root cause analysis activities with suppliers to eliminate recurrence of non-conformances;
• Perform Source Inspection of product at supplier locations;
• Perform and evaluate First Article Inspections per the requirements of AS9102, as well as train suppliers to meet BAE System’s expectations;
• Drive “Zero Defect” mentality within the supply base.
• Conduct audits to assess Supplier compliance to quality management systems and applicable special processes requirements.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS

• Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or a technical discipline, and two years of related experience, or the overall equivalent;
• Working knowledge of Quality System Requirements;
• Knowledgeable in engineering drawings and GD&T;
• Well familiarized with engineering codes and standards;
• Skills in problem solving – Root Cause / Corrective Action;
• Computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite;
• Ability to exercise discretion and independent, sound judgment while complying with policies, procedures, appropriate principles, and applicable state and federal laws and regulations;
• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, to effectively disseminate information and work collaboratively;
• Ability to develop and demonstrate research and presentation skills;
• Good planning, time management, and organization skills;
• Ability to develop and maintain professional and effective relationships with internal and external customers;
• Able to support travel of up to 50%.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS

• Bachelors in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering;
• Six Sigma Green Belt / Black Belt;
• First Piece Inspection / Testing (AS9102);
• Process Failure and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and Control Plans;
• Oracle;
• TipQA;
• QMS Lead Auditor certification;
• ASQ certifications (Auditor, Metrology, Quality Engineer, etc.);
• Part Production Approval Process (PPAP) experience;Advanced Quality Product Planning (APQP) experience.
