Job Title: Supply Chain & Logistics Manager Job Description We are seeking a strategic and experienced Senior Supply Chain Manager to lead high-volume transportation and logistics operations across rail and road. This role is critical in ensuring cost-effective, timely, and safe movement of over 500,000 tons of finished steel annually, while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence. Responsibilities Manage rail and road transportation planning, execution, and carrier relationships. Negotiate contracts and reduce broker reliance to optimize costs. Supervise warehouse, transportation, and planning managers. Indirectly oversee a team of 50–60 staff including dispatchers, forklift operators, and planners. Track and report transportation costs using SCMS and BI tools. Maintain KPIs including cost per ton, demurrage fees, and on-time delivery with a target of 95–96%. Utilize ERP systems for logistics coordination. Ensure accurate and timely reporting of shipments and costs. Collaborate closely with sales and internal stakeholders to align logistics with customer needs. Engage in limited interaction with procurement for contract approvals. Essential Skills Proficiency in logistics and high-volume freight operations. Ability to manage KPIs and utilize ERP systems. Strong negotiation and strategic planning skills. Experience with APICS, SCMS, and Power BI. Expertise in cost control analysis, route optimization, and cost mitigation. Knowledge of demurrage, steel, scrap metal, and the manufacturing industry. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or APICS certification is required; other relevant certifications are considered. 8+ years in transportation or distribution, with 6+ years acceptable for exceptional candidates. Experience managing large-scale logistics (200,000+ tons annually). Familiarity with ERP systems like SAP and Oracle. Experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment is preferred. Strong understanding of rail and truck dispatching. Work Environment The role involves hands-on and operational tasks with direct involvement in logistics and warehouse operations. It balances office and field work, combining strategic planning with visibility into day-to-day execution. The position is collaborative, with regular interaction with Sales, Executive Leadership, and direct reports. The work environment is technology-enabled, utilizing SCMS and BI tools for real-time logistics and cost tracking. This is a full-time role with standard business hours. Local travel between McMinnville and North Portland is minimal (1–5%), with quarterly travel to a warehouse in California and minimal overnight travel, primarily regional.
