Description

Full job description

SPC Global (ASX:SPG) is an iconic food and beverage manufacturer with a 100-year commitment to playing a positive role in the Australian economy and manufacturing industry. Our commercial business office is located in Melbourne CBD and runs four Business Divisions

– SPC, The Original Beverage Co, Nature One and Natural Ingredients.

Our Group has a portfolio of brands with a focus on providing nourishment and wellness for consumers globally. Our Group’s products span packaged fruit and tomatoes, baked beans and spaghetti, ready-made meals, beverages, juice and wellness shots, powdered milk products, and vegetable and fruit supplies to the food service industry.

With a strong heritage in Australia, and ambitious plans to grow both domestically and internationally, this is an exciting time to join our business.

The Opportunity

The supply planning manager in Shepparton has full ownership of the 6-104 week supply plan for the Shepparton site, as well as accountability for the short-term material planning and scheduling for the site to ensure an accurate plan, build on reasonable assumptions, that meets the objectives of the business – both 1-year STIP objectives and the mid-term plan.

This role will have 3 direct reports – 2 schedulers and the newly created Material Supply Planning Lead role. This position can be based at either our Shepparton site or our Corporate Office, Swanston Street, Melbourne.

Key Objectives

  • Leading cross-functional business continuity management (BCM) teams to mitigate DIFOT risk.
  • Full ownership of long-term supply and capacity needs from the site, making recommendations for management of demand or new products and aligning with operations on how and when to implement.
  • Ownership of the capacity and production plan including actuals in IBP forums, short and long term.
  • Manage customer and commercial expectations through clear and consistent heatmaps that are built upon clear assumptions and outline in words the risk to those assumptions.
  • Manage production volume and inventory to target (STIP and mid-term plan targets) to ensure sufficient cash available to the business to reinvest whilst protecting the P&L. This may require trade-offs, which the supply planning lead will present to the business for decision in the form of an Issue for Resolution (IFR).
  • Working with operations to smooth 6-104 week production plans and optimize labour spend, with labour utilization a key metric that the supply planning manager will be accountable for.
  • Ensure DIFOT risks are called out and escalated into appropriate forums for mitigation or communication.
  • Work with demand planning to understand changes to the demand forecast, risk to the demand forecast, and be able to communicate major changes influencing the demand forecast – this role will serve as a key conduit between demand and the site, and it’s critical to understand the demand and profitability of key SKUs to be able to lobby for the impact to customers driven by decisions that impact DIFOT.
  • Manage the supply planning team to ensure they are set-up for success, have backfill available to take leave, and work with the Head of Supply Planning on succession for the supply planning team roles.
  • Track and report utilization by line in the factory including projections to support labour planning and capital projections for additional capacity/debottlenecking.
  • Support the introduction of new production lines, including but not limited to: Juice shots, hot-fill juice bottling, juice blending and batching, etc.

Key Responsibilities

Medium to long Term Supply Plan

  • Ensure an achievable supply plan built on reasonable assumptions is reflected in the system for 6-104 weeks, building in known disruptions and material availability gaps, known capacity constraints including labour availability, etc
  • Handover the medium-long term plan to scheduling when it crosses the 6-week horizon, so that the schedulers can order labels and sequence the plan
  • Crop planning, including triple reconciliation between D365, yield calculations, and Blueshift requirements, overlaying opportunities and other considerations, and presenting to ELT for sign-off
  • This forms the backbone for the other activities and reporting below

DIFOT Reporting & Management

  • Consistent and accurate heatmaps used for internal and external communications, built on clear assumptions with key risks highlighted
  • Work with the scheduling team and factory team to prioritise to maximise DIFOT
  • Escalation of DIFOT risks, including leading BCMs if needed to resolve problems
  • DIFOT key metric

Labour & Asset Utilisation & Cost Control

  • Project labour and asset utilisation by line or whatever is most appropriate to enable effective long-term labour planning and production smoothing to manage costs as well as support capacity/debottlenecking plans for capital budgeting
  • Work with the engineering and operations teams to plan in outages as needed and build that into the plan as appropriate to understand prebuild requirements to ensure DIFOT is maintained
  • Work with CI to update planning rates to ensure they are accurate based on historical run rates and thus the future plan is accurate
  • Work with operations on OEE targets to minimise cost on key, highly-utilised assets and report on that in S&OE forums
  • Provide recommendations to operations on shift structure solutions and support them in implementation
  • Labour utilisation key metric

Inventory Management

  • Manage production run lengths with operations and system settings to ensure inventory is maintained to target and meets inventory policy
  • If a trade-off is required between customer, cost, and cash, escalate for decision through an IFR in IBP
  • Identify and support solution to rework or reclassify excess BG or FG, or work with inventory controller on clearance options if needed
  • Work with the global inventory controller to schedule rework to minimise NPI
  • Report on projected inventory as a result of the production plan into IBP including risks, assumptions, and changes
  • Inventory for Shepparton vs target and % non-performing inventory are key metrics

Production Volume Management Against Budget

  • Manage production volumes against budget and ensure production plans used for financial reporting monthly are accurate, reviewed, and manually adjusted as necessary
  • If production volumes are off track to target for the FY based on reducing demand, escalate to IBP through an IFR for a decision
  • Report on production plan volumes, changes, risks, and assumptions through IBP and talk to said reporting
  • Escalate and hold others accountable to key trends and issues impacting business performance
  • Production KGs vs budget is a key metric

Team Management

  • Ensure backfill through cross-training or by leveraging other teams to enable team members to take leave
  • Work with the head of supply planning on succession for supply team members in Shepparton
  • Ensure the team is engaged, aligned to the mid-term plan, and understand the role they play in hitting the plan
  • Support the team in professional development including leveraging the head of supply planning for support as needed
