    About the role
    The Support Officer plays a vital role in assisting Red Cross Emergency Services during disaster response by addressing the immediate needs of affected communities. This dynamic role requires flexibility, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning within a fast-paced and ever-evolving environment. In addition to response activities, the position may also contribute to initiatives focused on community preparedness, recovery, and resilience when available.
Responsibilities
  • Providing psychological first aid to individuals and communities affected by disasters.
  • Supporting the Red Cross Incident Management Team through workforce deployment and logistical coordination.
  • Assisting in the preparation and maintenance of reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supporting Emergency Services workforce compliance and capability development through training initiatives.
  • Supporting Emergency Services liaison activities by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Performing general administrative tasks and conducting data analysis to support decision-making.
    This casual role is best suited to a highly organised and adaptable individual who thrives in high-pressure environments, is motivated to support disaster response, recovery, and resilience efforts, and is available to work irregular hours during Queensland disaster events, with no guarantee of ongoing work outside these periods.

About you

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders; a strong team player.
  • Experience in project management or contributing to project-based work.
  • Strong administrative skills with the ability to manage and analyse large databases to support Emergency Services operations and reporting.
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a willingness to learn new systems or processes as needed.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using software applications, including Microsoft Excel, databases, mobile/tablet applications, and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing demands effectively.
  • Working with children check (blue card) is essential

Further information
This role is covered by the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award - Level 3. Hourly rate from $38.65 + casual loading + superannuation + access to salary packaging.
