Job Title: Support Staff
Program: Inii Healing House - Mental Wellness
Classification: FULL-TIME & CASUAL contracts – Term (fiscal year-end)
Location: 1880 15th Ave Brocket, AB
Reports to: IHH Program Leader
Schedule: 8-hour shifts for Full-time & casual positions; four days on/four days off
Rate of Pay: $22-$24 per hour with a $2 top-up for night shift

THE OPPORTUNITY

Support Staff (SS) positions work out of Inii Healing House (IHH). IHH is a 24-hour/60-day on-reserve treatment center that provides a structured, intensive healing experience for individuals struggling with substance abuse, mental health issues, and/or trauma. IHH allows up to 10 residents to receive support within the community, often integrating culturally relevant and land-based healing practices. We are seeking caring, dependable, and culturally aware Support Staff to join our front-line team. In this role, you will support residents throughout their healing journey by fostering a safe, respectful, and structured environment. SS act as role models, guides, and companions—offering emotional support, encouragement, and accountability in both everyday life and long-term recovery. This position works closely with clinical and support staff to ensure that all programming aligns with the treatment model and supports residents’ recovery and healing journey.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Intermediate level of verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Build and manage relationships based on trust and rapport
  • Knowledge of Piikani/Blackfoot Culture and Language is an asset.
  • Sound Knowledge and ability to demonstrate a practical application of the following techniques is considered an asset: crisis intervention, de-escalation skills, people management skills, conflict intervention and resolution

QUALIFICATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent (education in Addictions, Mental Health, Indigenous Studies, or Social Services an asset) Recovery Coach training provided to the right candidate
  • Lived experience in recovery (minimum 2 year) and/or supporting others in recovery (especially in Indigenous communities)
  • Understanding of addiction, trauma, and intergenerational impacts of colonization
  • Ability to remain calm, grounded and supportive in challenging situations
  • Good communication, active listening, and boundary setting skills
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Clearance
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License

Responsibilities
  • Build trusting relationships with residents through empathy, respect, and consistency
  • Support daily routines, including meals, activities, group sessions, and cultural programming
  • Monitor the safety and well-being of residents in the facility and respond to incidents appropriately
  • Ensure residents follow their treatment plan and follow house guidelines
  • Assist residents with organizing personal affairs as needed – under Supervisor’s guidance
  • Accompany residents through their daily schedules
  • Chart and report on client activities
  • Accompany clients to cultural ceremonies, community outings, and programming events as needed
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as documentation, logs, and shift reports
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and cultural development opportunities
  • Housekeeping duties: cooking and cleaning
  • Confidentially offering transparent support – only high clearance access to client file notes/info (supervisor/director)
