New Chapters is a family-run service that offers vulnerable adults the opportunity to live independently but in a supported environment.
We are seeking a dedicated and caring full-time support worker in Langford to assist the people we support towards gain independent-living skills within a safe and friendly environment.

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

The people we support in this service may have learning disabilities, mental health conditions and/or autism. You must have a driving licence for this role.

Responsibilities include:

  • Encouraging the people we support to participate in their chosen activity or follow their interests, which will involve assisting them in the community.
  • Co-ordinating scheduled activities for the people we support, using personalised rotas, liaising with others and ensuring facilitated activities and appointments are attended.
  • Assisting with personal care, including bathing, dressing, toileting, and grooming, while respecting dignity and privacy, and/or supporting or prompting service users to undertake their personal care (as appropriate).
  • Implementing behaviour management strategies when necessary.

The full-time role is 40 hours per week. Shifts may be up to 12 hours.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in a care setting is desirable
  • A strong desire to work with people who have mental health concerns, learning disabilities and/or display challenging behaviour is essential.
  • A full driving licence.
  • The ability to remain calm, empathetic and level-headed in all situations is essential, particularly if faced with challenging behaviour.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills, as you will be supporting people who use various methods of communication.
  • Good basic comprehension of the English language, literacy and numerical skills.
  • Ongoing commitment to your own personal development and training.
