EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, such as Psychology, Social Work, Gender Studies, Equity Studies or Education, Critical Disabilities Studies, Public Health, or Education).

EXPERIENCE:

  • 4 years related experience.
  • Progressive experience in case management coordinating services, advising, and dealing with multiple complex student issues, student conduct cases, critical incident, crisis management and gender-based violence, alternative dispute resolution required.
  • Experience supporting community members on issues related to conflict, mental health, behavioural concerns, and sexual violence from an intersectional lens.
  • Experience coordinating safety planning and/or risk assessments with those who have experienced violence.

SKILLS:

  • Understanding of administrative law principles.

Responsibilities

The Supports and Services Coordinator role is responsible for supporting students, impacted by critical incidents, facing personal crises or multiple complex issues, to maximize student engagement and success. The role supports students, staff, and faculty with care and support services related to student rights and responsibilities, judicial processes, critical incidents, and sexual violence.The role reports to the Manager, Office of Student Community Relations, and resolves complaints related to inappropriate student behaviour whether informally or through formal disciplinary processes. The role advocates for students to secure accommodations, financial assistance, stopouts/leaves, emergency housing and provides education and training on students’ rights and responsibilities to students, faculty, and staff. The role is part of the critical response team and provides support to students of concern as identified.The role also supports the Centre for Sexual Violence Response, Support and Education, through participation in program development, providing training, facilitating workshops and coordinating awareness and education programming and campaigns. The role provides supports and services to students who are respondents of sexual violence and ensures staff and faculty respondents are provided with supports through the appropriate University offices.The role creates a positive, supportive, and student-focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement, that embraces diversity and fosters inclusion. The Coordinator will provide services at both Markham and Keele Campuses.Markham Campus (MC) will embed York University in the heart of one of the most diverse and dynamic urban communities in the province and country.
