EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree plus five years of core mass transit experience, two of which must have been in rail operations. Must have at least two years of mass transit supervisory or managerial experience, or as a Rail Controller. In lieu of a degree, directly related experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Must be knowledgeable of the operations of Control Center consoles including train control. Experience working in a union environment required. Must have, at minimum, knowledge of management of operations and administrative programs of considerable scope given tight deadlines, extreme pressure and adverse conditions; creative problem solving skills to ensure proper equipment operations, maintenance and modifications; human relations skills, and experience dealing with union representatives. INTERVIEW SELECTION PROCESS: The selection process may include one or more components to demonstrate applicants’ knowledge, skills and abilities in job related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interviews and/or competency assessments. SUMMARY Responsible for monitoring movement of the MARTA trains using computer systems, including monitoring and control of train movement, traction power, and auxiliary electrical equipment; the coordination of emergency procedures; and the training and scheduling of Rail Services Controllers. On a twenty-four (24) hour basis, he/she will be required to respond and assume command during emergencies or major incidents. Serves as the replacement for the General Superintendent when required. This position has been identified as having responsibility for transit safety oversight at MARTA and is required to comply with the training requirements identified in the Authority’s Agency Safety Plan. Training requirements must be completed within 3 years of employment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Assists with the overall work goals and activities. 2. Maintains staffing and supervises employees as appropriate to needs of branch. 3. Creates and maintains a consistent quality and customer focused team orientation among subordinate employees which supports the division's mission. 4. Carries out major assignments in conducting the operations of the business. 5. Performs work that affects business operations to a substantial degree. 6. Performs other related duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Manages staff of Rail Services Controllers, Supervisors - Communication, and Communication Coordinators. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS This position requires annual recertification as a Superintendent and Level III Wayside Access Certification. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is ordinarily performed in a standard office environment. Work may also be performed within the Integrated Operations Center/RSC where the work environment is closed-in and dimly lit with amphitheater seating.
