POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Unit Manager, RN Clinical Operations Coordinator, and/or RN Service Leads, the Surgical Technologist supports the operative team by facilitating the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. This role requires proficiency in aseptic technique, strong knowledge of surgical anatomy, and the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team during procedures.
Working per diem, the Surgical Technologist must be adaptable and skilled in multiple surgical specialties. This individual plays a key role in ensuring quality patient care by maintaining the sterile field, assisting surgeons directly, and managing surgical instruments and supplies in a timely and efficient manner.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of an accredited surgical technology program (CAHEA or equivalent).
  • Certification required unless employed in a surgical facility prior to July 1, 2013.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience in a surgical setting is a plus but not required.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Proficiency in sterile/aseptic techniques.
  • Thorough understanding of human anatomy and surgical procedures.
  • Ability to support invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Attention to detail, adaptability, and effective communication.

EDUCATION:

Associates Degree (Required)

Responsibilities
  • Maintain safety and proper operation of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Participate in the operating room team with awareness of patient history and intra-operative care plans.
  • Understand and manage pharmacologic agents dispensed to the sterile field.
  • Preserve a sterile environment, ensuring patient safety throughout procedures.
  • Document tasks and activities within the scope of practice accurately.
  • Achieve expectations of Surgical Technologist Level I clinical ladder.
  • Practice sharps safety and temperature regulation during surgery.
  • Handle and label surgical specimens properly.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of medical terminology and communication.
