Description THIS POSITION IS NOT A REMOTE POSITION Multispecialty surgery practice is currently seeking a full time (in-office) Surgery Authorization Coordinator to join our team! The Surgery Authorization Coordinator is responsible for determining insurance benefits and eligibility for our patients as well as contacting the insurance preauthorization/precertification department to obtain authorization when required. This would be for all surgical patients for specific providers. At times peer-to-peer appointments must be set for providers to assist with prior approval. The Surgery Authorization Coordinator will work closely with the surgery schedulers and providers to ensure that all services are approved prior to the scheduled procedure(s). Major Responsibilities/Tasks: Use Phreesia, our automated system, to contact insurance companies to verify patient insurance benefits, eligibility, and out of pocket Update patient information into our system, as needed Ensure documentation is ready to submit for authorizations per insurance requirements Contact PCPs for referrals, when necessary Coordinate processes and timing as required to meet physician and facility requirements Interact with patients, physicians and other staff within the clinic and at outside facilities providing accurate, timely and responsive information Maintain files and patient records in a confidential manner Perform other related duties as directed or assigned by manager Assist with other administrative tasks as needed Requirements This job description is not intended to be and should not be construed as an all-inclusive list of all the responsibilities, skills or working conditions associated with this position. Experience & Knowledge needed to be a successful Insurance Authorizations & Verifications Coordinator: Minimum of 6 months of previous experience with obtaining surgery authorizations preferred Minimum of 6 months of previous experience in medical authorizations and verifications (highly preferred) Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes (required) Understanding of basic medical terminology Proficient with Microsoft Office and similar computer programs Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type, review and edit documentation and correspondence Physical Requirements of the position: This position is sedentary, needing the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time. Requires occasional bending, reaching, lifting, walking, and squatting. Periodic lifting up to 20lbs without assistance. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Requires long periods of working on a computer with repetitive motions such as typing and use of a mouse in addition to operating a computer and other office machinery such as a calculator, office copy machine and computer printer. Has the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand as well as be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
