Description Job Title: Surgical Scrub Technician (Scrub Tech) Department: Surgery Reports To: Chief Surgical Officer FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Pay Range: $25.00–$31.00 per hour Schedule: Monday–Thursday, four (4) ten-hour shifts Position Summary: The Surgical Scrub Technician (Scrub Tech) assists with the organization and daily operations of the operating room in accordance with all federal, state, accreditation, and company policies and procedures. This role is responsible for preparing supplies, equipment, and instrumentation for surgical procedures, maintaining a sterile field, and anticipating the needs of the surgeon throughout each case. The Scrub Tech ensures the safe and efficient processing of surgical instruments and equipment, strictly adheres to sterilization and disinfection protocols, and contributes to a safe surgical environment. This position works closely with the Chief Surgical Officer, Clinical Director, registered nurses, providers, and other staff to support efficient patient flow and deliver the highest standard of patient care. Essential Functions: Prepare operating rooms for scheduled procedures, including setup and room turnover. Scrubs in and assists surgeon during procedures while maintaining a sterile field. Perform pre-operative testing, including Argos measurements. Operate the LenSx laser and ensure all required parameters for LenSx patients are established. Assist with focusing the ECP monitor during glaucoma treatments. Clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment in accordance with established protocols. Ensures surgical instruments are properly maintained, inspected, in optimal condition, and ready for use in procedures. Maintains accurate records and documentation related to instrument processing and sterilization. Ensures compliance with safety standards, infection control guidelines, HIPAA, OSHA, and company confidentiality policies. Support training and onboarding of new Surgical Scrub Technicians. Greet and assist patients in a professional manner to promote a positive patient experience. Auxiliary Functions: Opens, stocks, cleans, and closes the operating room and LenSx room daily. Maintains inventory of surgical and medical supplies and provides order lists to the Materials Manager. Monitors proper cleaning and maintenance of surgical equipment, including phaco, gurneys, instruments, etc. Review surgical case charts prior to each procedure. Collaborate with clinical leaders, registered nurses, and Operating Room staff to support surgical schedules and instrument needs. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of surgical testing equipment and testing procedures. Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and sterile processing standards. Understanding of eye anatomy and ophthalmic surgical procedures. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of staff. Strong initiative, judgment, and decision-making skills. Ability to train and support new staff members. Consistently professional, collaborative, and patient-focused demeanor. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of patient, company, and employee information. Requirements Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum of one (1) year of surgical technician or sterile processing experience. Completion of a Surgical Technician certification program or Sterile Processing certification program. One (1) year of medical experience required. Ophthalmic surgical technician experience preferred. Additional Requirements Successful completion of a comprehensive background check, including reference and employment verification. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: Work Environment Primarily a temperature-controlled surgical facility. Physical Demands Prolonged standing with occasional bending, stooping, and stretching. Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required to operate surgical and office equipment. Normal range of hearing and vision required for patient care and communication. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to assist with patient transfers, including wheelchair-to-gurney transitions. Essential Physical Tasks Sight: Ability to adjust small instruments and read documents and computer monitors. Smell: Ability to detect smoke, burning, or other unusual odors. Hearing: Ability to communicate in person, by phone, or via video and detect ambient sounds. Touch: Ability to operate surgical instruments, equipment, and office tools. Mobility/Strength: Ability to lift, twist, reach, kneel, squat, sit, walk, stand, and bend throughout a standard shift.
