This job ensures availability of equipment and supplies for surgical procedures; coordinates the efficient supply and accurate deployment of implantable devices; inspects and oversees the systems readiness, provides corrective actions and follow-up ensuring all items ( i.e., implants, instruments, and supplies) are ready and available on the day of surgery; develops and maintains an understanding of different surgical techniques for directing the safe and accurate use of medical devices; interacts with both the surgeon and staff emphasizing quality, continuous improvement and high performance, and competently scrubs for surgical procedures. Delivers the right items, in the right place, at the right time. Must be comfortable building relationships with surgeons so that he/she can identify the opportunities for improving and or resolving any discrepancies related to implantable devices, and performs other duties as assigned by the RN.

EDUCATION

Required - High school graduate of equivalent.
Preferred - Graduate of an accepted Surgical Tech Program.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required - 3 years of operating room experience.
Preferred - 5 years of operating room experience.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAS)

  • Knowledge of human anatomy, surgery procedures, and implementation instruments and technologies.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good time management skills and ability to be self directed.
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgement.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinates patient scheduling, manages inventory and ensures proper instrumentation and implantable devices are in place for day of surgery.
  • Maintains required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training and credentials.
  • Performs direct patient care duties.
  • Communicates information pertaining to patient care needs to patients, family members and co-workers.
  • Competently cares for and provides services to patients/customers in specific relations to their age and developmental stage with supervision of the staff nurse.
  • Adapts to rapid changes in the department caused by unit census, patient acuity and resource availability.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
